On the heels of yesterday’s patch for NHL 17 is the arrival of the game’s first roster update since the beginning of the season. Additionally rosters have been updated for Liiga, SHL, DEL, Extraliga Ledniho Hokeje, and National League.
After scoring four goals in his first game Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs makes a celebrated debut in NHL 17. The 19-year-old center comes in rated 85 Overall and that already makes him the third highest rated player on the team. He also has been given Potential designated as ‘Elite’ which will influence progression in Franchise Mode.
Other notable rookies include Patrik Laine and Kyle Connor (WPG) who are rated 82 and 80 respectively, a 79 Overall rating to Jesse Puljujarvi (EDM), Devin Shore (DAL) and Jimmy Vessy (NYR), and Travis Konecny (PHI) who makes his debut at 77.

The first post-release update for Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 is scheduled to release near the end of the month. The patch will feature a number of player likeness improvements and specific play-styles for individuals. It will also update the pitch side hoardings and introduce new official boot styles to the game, including the option of choosing a variety of studs.
Konami has also revealed what to expect out of the update that will follow sometime in November. That patch will deliver PS4 Pro mode allowing for 4K resolution. There will also be further enhancements made to two of the teams that have marketing partnerships with PES: Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. Anfield Stadium and the club’s songs and chants will be added for Liverpool. Signal Iduna Parkwill be added for Borussia Dortmund.
The ninth commentary update for Madden NFL 17 has gone out with the broadcast team of Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis reflecting on the events that took place and storylines that emerged from week five of the season. Madden will be receiving these real-world commentary updates regularly throughout the year which apply to Play Now and Online games. The duo will also be recording additional audio for modes like Franchise and Ultimate Team.

The second post-release patch for NHL 17 arrived today, and while it fixes one major gameplay issue it appears any others have gone unaddressed. The first patch for the game in September was based largely on community feedback out of the pre-release beta while this one instead looks to fix some issues before another patch comes responding to feedback since then. The update hits mostly on EA Sports Hockey League and Ultimate Team. With the ALCS and NLCS underway SCEA has rolled out two new Missions in MLB The Show 16’s Diamond Dynasty mode. Owners of the Josh Donaldson and Andrew Miller Rookie Cards will have the new challenges unlocked in order to obtain their current Live Series Cards.
Andrew Miller requires 6 wins (he was a starter as a rookie for Detroit). His Rookie Card can currently be purchased from the Marketplace for under 2,000 Stubs. The Live Series Card that would be earned has a value right now of about 9,000 Stubs.
The bigger upside is with Josh Donaldson. His Rookie Card is going for about 16,000 Stubs but the Live Series version that would be earned is worth 32,000. It’s a much tougher goal to reach however as the Rookie Donaldson has to hit 25 doubles to unlock the Live card.
There are also special “Championship Series Packs” this week that offer an increased chance at pulling Miller or Donaldson Rookie Cards. 4 cards are in each pack featuring players from the final 4 teams in the postseason. Those packs are being sold for 3,000 Stubs.
Besides the two mountain sports titles the wave of sports game releases for the year is now in the rear view mirror and the focus naturally turns to enjoying them rather than the anticipation that precedes them. It was an especially strong crop of games with NBA 2K17, PES 2017, FIFA 17, Madden NFL 17, and Forza Horizon 3 all having been reviewed very highly.
Which game is getting the most play-time now and why is that the case? Vote in the poll below and leave any additional thoughts in the comments!
