The third post-release patch for NBA 2K17 has arrived for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The update frees up the ability to deliver roster updates – the first is out now also – and addresses a number of issues in gameplay and with the various modes in the game.

The patch delivers PS4 Pro support, the updated court for the Cavs, various adjustments to foul calls, fixing of illegal screens, changes to CPU defensive AI decision-making, and the ability to skip previously watched scenes in MyCareer story mode. Unfortunately, even with the patch, issues with Pro-Am reportedly have not all been solved.  Read more

    PS4 Pro NBA 2K17 FIFA 17

The PS4 Pro is just days away from release and two of the biggest sports games will be ready to take advantage of its capabilities at launch. NBA 2K17 and FIFA 17 will be receiving patches by next Thursday that will enhance them for use with the updated console.

Capabilities of the more powerful PS4 Pro include the ability to display in 4K resolution (for those with 4K television sets) and offer improved framerates in some cases. NBA 2K17 and FIFA 17 will not be any different other than how they will look visually. The opportunity is there for other sports games to update as well – PES 2017 is confirmed but there has been no word yet on Madden NFL 17 or NHL 17. The PS4 Pro is available for $400 and releases November 10.

The NBA 2K series has shown continued growth over recent years due in part to the strength of its MyCareer story mode. It’s was only natural that other companies would take notice and examine doing the same for their sports games. EA Sports is no stranger to the concept of narrative-driven modes – Fight Night Champion in 2011 was based around that very thing – but it’s a new initiative for their crop of yearly league licensed franchises which have largely played it safe since the debut of Ultimate Team in 2008.  Read more

  • Review of Mark McMorris Infinite Air

    Infinite Air Mark McMorris

Mountain sports games are making a resurgence with three of them releasing in this final quarter of the year. There’s the full-priced Steep in early December, the free-to-play Snow which is currently in beta, and Mark McMorris Infinite Air which arrived last week.

Hopes were high with Infinite Air as it comes from HB Studios which created the well-received The Golf Club. Taking a similar approach from there and applying it to snowboarding just didn’t work out unfortunately. The control scheme is poorly-conceived and the learning curve leads to constant discouragement instead of what would need to be a rewarding process to learning and improving. The creation tools are excellent, but outside of that there’s little to Infinite Air that justifies a $50 price point. Check out the full review at Sporting News today!
