The ‘Road to Cardiff’ in PES League begins today exclusive to PlayStation with a massive payout going to the eventual winner of $200,000. Those with the PS4 version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2017, as well as anyone who downloads the free-to-play edition of the game on PS4, can compete in the eSports event that will run all the way through June.

The new PES League website is where registration takes place along with providing the monitoring of all scores and results. There are four regions for qualification with North and South America, Europe, and Asia all culminating with tournaments featuring their top 16 players. Ultimately Europe will send eight entrants, the Americas four, two from Asia, one from the rest of the world, and another selected at a later stage to play in the final tournament.

Runners-up in the competition will also walk away with healthy cash payouts of $100,000 to second place and $50,000 to third, and regional winners will receive $20,000.

  • Mid-December NBA 2K17 roster update details

Another substantial roster update went out today in NBA 2K17. Player evaluations now include the first six weeks of the season. Changes continue to occur at the top where the group of elite MVP-caliber players have shifted with each update.

Kawhi Leonard has gone up a point to 95 Overall (2nd highest in the league tied with Russell Westbrook) while James Harden moved up to 94 and Stephen Curry has recovered a point to 94 despite a relatively slow start to December. DeMarcus Cousins has crawled his way into the mix rising to 93. Kevin Durant however has dropped back to the 94 he had earlier in the season.

LeBron James remains all alone as the highest rated player in the game at 96 Overall. Durant’s drop is probably attributed to a slower shooting start to December, with 45% from the field and 31% from outside the arc. Those are down from 57% and 46% respectively in November. No changes made to Klay Thompson despite his 60 point outburst in just 29 minutes of action as his three-point shooting numbers are still down from last season.

Other notable players on the move following the last few weeks of action include DeMar DeRozan (+1 to 90), Andre Drummond (+2 to 88), Kyle Lowry (+2 to 87), Gordon Hayward (+2 to 87), Carmelo Anthony (-1 to 86), Hassan Whiteside (-1 to 86), Kemba Walker (-1 to 86), Kristaps Porzingis (+1 to 85), Rudy Gobert (+2 to 84), Goran Dragic (+2 to 83), Myles Turner (+2 to 82), Louis Williams (+2 to 82), and Nikola Jokic (+3 to 79).

The fifth post-release patch released today for Madden NFL 17 addressing a couple gameplay bugs along with some work done on Ultimate Team. One of the issues addressed is the “QB freeze” which was witnessed multiple times during the recent Madden Classic eSports event, and unfortunately contributed to creating the turning point of the championship game.

♦Addressed a gameplay issue where the QB would freeze after hot routing a running back and motioning him out before he became fully set.

♦Addressed a gameplay issue where a receiver who was hot routed would switch back to his previous assignment if he was motioned and not fully set.

♦Various upgrades to improve the Madden Ultimate Team Holiday experience.

♦Enhanced preparations to help deal with the upcoming Freeze (Ultimate Team).

  • New Pro Bowl Skills Showdown could mean fun new mini-games for Madden NFL 18

I’ve still got fond memories of the 1994 Super Nintendo game NFL Quarterback Club which featured QB skills competitions. Officially licensed by the NFL the game offered the opportunity to compete in mini-games based off the actual NFL Quarterback Challenge that would take place each year. There were two based on accuracy in throwing the ball at targets, another measuring distance of throws, and then a course which introduced obstacles to navigate before throwing therefore accounting for both time and accuracy.

Madden NFL 18 could have something similar but stretch it beyond just the participation of quarterbacks to all positions but kickers and punters. The league announced today its Pro Bowl Skills Showdown which will take place in late January with four unique events.

Epic Pro Bowl Dodgeball: Pro Bowlers will compete in a game of dodgeball.
Power Relay Challenge: Four team members will compete in a timed relay race.
Precision Passing: Two players on each team will battle it out, trying to hit moving targets of varying size and distance.
Best Hands: Quarterback and wide receiver duos from each team will show off their skills, connecting on as many pass attempts as possible before time runs out.

Madden already has arguably the best tutorial-like system in sports gaming, with a series of mini-games making up the Skills Trainer that are valuable in not just teaching game mechanics but football concepts at the same time. A few of these may even fit into that mold, though the dodgeball seems like it could just be something fun off on its own.
