The numerous patches to go out recently for NBA 2K17 have attempted to address a variety of issues but in the process may have contributed to creating another one. In the days following the release of the patch this last weekend reports have begun to flow in through social media and sites such as Operation Sports and Reddit from users who have found their online leagues are no longer functioning properly. Whether this will ultimately be dealt with server side, or as another painfully large patch, remains to be seen but 2K is investigating the problem.
MyLeague Online allows for up to 30 individual players each controlling a team to play together through multiple seasons. Users involved are now reporting that game results and any moves made are no longer saving and leagues aren’t able to advance. This appears to be an issue relating only to pre-existing leagues and not ones that would be started now from scratch.
While last week for MLB The Show 17 was all about gameplay, this week the focus has shifted to the back-to-back Community Award winner for Best Team-Building Mode. Following the initial Diamond Dynasty reveal video yesterday covering the new ways to play and other additions, another video has gone out functioning as an introduction to the mode for those unfamiliar while also going through some new features that will debut with the upcoming game. The sixth post-release patch for Madden NFL 17 went out today and it’s a substantial one. Not only is it somewhat unusual to get a patch after a NFL season has ended, it’s especially so considering gameplay is the focus of the update.
Some of the biggest changes include addressing RAC catches, a fix for CPU defenders being offsides in no-huddle situations, improvements to zone coverage in handling C routes, and an increase to the chance of fumbles when diving over the top of players, a fix for CPU punts into the wind, and more importance being given to the ratings of offensive lineman. Read more
A new video today courtesy of Gamestop provides a first opportunity to get a good understanding of the additions and improvements coming to Diamond Dynasty mode with MLB The Show 17. Hinted at earlier with the full promotional schedule, the team-building mode will feature two new ways to play with Ranked Seasons and limited-time Events. There will also be new Mission types and a new rewards system that will be known as Diamond Program.
The latest game to make it to the EA Access Vault on Xbox One is Skate 3, which first became backwards compatible for the system in November. It’s a consolation prize for fans of the series given that there is no indication Electronic Arts plans to develop a fourth.
Skate 3 originally came out in 2010 and was actually the lowest rated edition of the franchise finishing with an 80 on Metacritic. Some of the complaints related to the proximity of releases as the trio of Skate games were released within a 32 month span. New features for Skate 3 included Skate School tutorial, skate park creation, and co-op career mode.
Skate 3 joins EA Sports UFC 2, Madden NFL 16, FIFA 16, NHL 16, NBA Live 16, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, and SSX which have all been added to the Vault in the last year plus games from other genres such as Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Star Wars Battlefront.
Besides the Vault which contains the back catalogue of titles from the publisher EA Access also offers 10% off all digital purchases and the ability to play timed trials with soon-to-release or more recent games. The subscription service is $30 for the year or $5 per month.
Given that past additions to the Vault have generally been spaced out that could mean that Madden NFL 17 won’t be going in until March. Last year Madden was added the week leading up to the Super Bowl, but in 2015 it made it to the service in early March.

Still in their infancy within the competitive arena there were two major stories for sports video games and their place as eSports this week. EA Sports had to navigate controversy due to the conduct of the Madden Bowl winner on social media, while 2K Sports announced an unprecedented partnership with the NBA to create what will be known as the NBA 2K eLeague.
Also discussed are gameplay improvements that have been detailed for MLB The Show 17, the return of Mutant League Football and its successful Kickstarter campaign, and the decision made for E3 to start admitting the public instead of just industry professionals and press.

Another update is now available to download in NBA 2K17 and becomes the ninth post-release patch of substance this year. For whatever reason on PS4 the updates have required a massive download of 7.6GB on each occasion. Considering four of them have been rolled out in the last 10 days, those who own the game on that system have been forced to download over 30GB of data over that short stretch of time which is problematic to say the least.
This latest patch deals with matchmaking issues in Pro-Am which saw occurrences of failed searches for opponents rise after one of the patches released just over a week ago.
Earlier updates addressed issues that include a lengthy delay loading to the main menu, gameplay in MyPark and PS4 Pro compatibility after adding support for the system, ability to release roster updates, fixing of the shot meter and various bugs, reduction of shot percentages, and tweaking of general gameplay and presentation. Despite all of that major issues have remained most notably related to CPU defensive AI and the game’s online Pro-Am mode.
