There’s no question that this has been a particularly rough year for the MLB The Show series. The excessive server troubles even still continue to linger months later and numerous patches have been needed to put out a variety of fires. Throughout all that though most would have agreed that gameplay remained excellent which is why they kept playing despite all the problems surrounding the game.
It seems the collective feeling towards MLB The Show 17 has shifted recently however due to adjustments made to hitting in the most recent patch and as a whole since the game released. Though it hasn’t actually been noted in the details, changes have been made reducing success at the plate in both average and power. Many are observing that even perfectly lined up and timed swings are resulting in weak pop-ups or grounders.
Whether it be on forums or social media the topic has been a hot one in the last week and that frustration is understandable. The swing feedback is all the information the user has to understand why they got the result that they did. When that feedback doesn’t match with reasonable expectations it’s a problem, and taking the power out of the bats makes the game considerably less fun to play as it naturally turns games into low scoring affairs and that then online promotes cheese tactics and leads to more quitting.
It’s all but certain that hitting will once again be addressed in the next patch though it’s unclear when that will come about. There was debate over the hitting even before the latest update that has created an uproar, and it’s something that Sony San Diego will surely be analyzing their data on for making adjustments and providing better balance going forward.

After a remarkable run through the playoffs decimating all competition the Golden State Warriors are being looked at as one of the best teams of all-time. But what would happen if they came up against the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who are widely considered to be the best ever?
In the piece put together for Sporting News 50 total series simulations were run between the two teams. According to NBA 2K17’s simulation engine – which has proven reliable in the past including predicting the Warriors 4-1 over the Cavs in the Finals – there’s no question which team would have the advantage winning the series 78% of the time. One style of play was ultimately more effective and too difficult for the other team to match.
Another significant patch is rolling out for NBA Playgrounds – available already on PS4 and PC and coming soon to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The update adds 35 more players to the roster (the previous patch brought in 15 new players), the Seattle SuperSonics are now a team within the game with versions of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp available so far, four new offline tournament locations have been introduced, and changes have been made to improve gameplay and other aspects of the game. Read more
Konami has followed up its initial info on Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 with a showing at E3 that included a trailer, presentation, and additional gameplay details. The biggest news though is the announcement of an online beta next month.
Featuring the new 3v3 online co-op mode the beta will run from July 20-31 on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s the first online beta in 7 years for the series. Feedback from the beta will be considered for a release day patch in September. Read more
Rocket League, which has sold well over 10 million copies and been played by over 30 million players, will be heading to the Nintendo Switch this holiday season. The surprise smash hit which has remained incredibly popular due to extensive post-release support and success as an eSport will be adding a new element of portability thanks to the system’s unique capabilities.
The Switch version of Rocket League will include cross-network play online with users on Xbox One and PC. Unfortunately Sony is blocking that capability from being utilized on the PlayStation 4 for Rocket League, Minecraft, and any other games that would seek it. Rocket League will support all of the different ways to play with the Switch including being docked to the TV and both handheld and tabletop modes.
All of the same content and updates that have already gone out or will go out in the future on PS4/XB1/PC will be available on Switch as well. Additionally exclusive content will be offered such as Mario and Luigi hat Toppers.
Much of the conversation around the FIFA for Nintendo Switch that will release in September has centered on what will be missing from the product. It won’t be on the Frostbite engine and it won’t have The Journey story mode. Now EA Sports has revealed exactly what to look for out of the game that appears to now officially be called FIFA 18 with the notation of this version being unique to the Switch. Read more
