While there’s no roster update this week in MLB The Show 17 some significant new content has just been rolled out in Diamond Dynasty.
Players of the Month for June are live with Jose Ramirez, Gary Sanchez, Chase Anderson, David Hernandez, Mike Zunino, and Jacob Faria being rewarded for their efforts with special cards. The big prize is Cody Bellinger who receives his own Player Epic that involves beating the Dodgers in a Play vs CPU game, reaching statistical goals based on the best June performers, and then collecting the first six POTM cards. The Bellinger is a 94 rated Diamond.
How you can obtain those other cards varies, with new Bases Loaded packs available in limited supply (only one per person can be bought), on the marketplace (Ramirez, Anderson, Hernandez, Zunino, Faria), and through the Ticket Counter (Sanchez).
There are also new Time Limited All-Star Missions where you’ll pick who you think will win the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game. A small prize is given for completing the exchanges, and the reward for picking the right winner is an All-Star Series Pack.
The sixth Event has also just opened up and runs until Monday. The three inning games use rosters compiled of common pitchers and power hitters – maybe to help get people hitting home runs again after all the complaints that have followed changes made in the last patch. Teams are capped at a rating of 80 Overall. 20 total wins will get 91 Overall All-Star Flashback Chris Davis and a streak of 12 straight wins earns 98 Overall All-Star Legend Luis Tiant.
Two years ago Rocket League released to intrigue due in large part to being free through PlayStation Plus, but not as a game that anyone would have imagined would become the sensation it still is to this day. To celebrate developer Psyonix has now released the Anniversary Update for the game which includes a free arena, two cars, additions to the soundtrack, customization options for goal explosions, trails, and engine sounds plus more! Rocket League can currently be had on sale for $10 on PS4 or $12 on XB1 and PC. Read more
For the first four days of release The Golf Club 2 was rendered largely unplayable due to server issues that made both Career Mode and Online Societies inaccessible. The problems appear to have been ironed out as the weekend went smoothly with all features working properly.
The only issue I’ve run into since Saturday are completed rounds played in Society that, when returning to start the next round, have lost results for a handful of holes in the completed round. I’ve had to re-play the final two to five holes. The leaderboard which tends to lag some in results may also be reflecting the servers falling behind on saving them.
So again, now that things are up and running, feel free to join the Pastapadre Online Society on PS4 where we are on to the second event of the season. The four round tournament will come to a close on Wednesday with a new one starting on Thursday. Competing on the leaderboards against others, potentially earning coin payouts, and helping to build up the society has already proven to be a good deal of fun for everyone involved.
While still a game presenting a difficult challenge at times, The Golf Club 2 is much more friendly to novices and delivers more content than the original in the form of Career and Societies. It’s definitely worth being picked up by fans of the sport or anyone seeking out simulation golf, and those with Amazon Prime can still get it for 20% off.

Nearly three years have passed since HB Studios debuted The Golf Club and now its sequel has just released. This episode of the Press Row Podcast examines The Golf Club 2 with discussion on its ultra-realistic gameplay, improvements to accessibility, new features, and unfortunate server problems.
Other topics covered during the show include patch restrictions on the Nintendo Switch discovered through NBA Playgrounds’ struggles to get an update out that could threaten post-release support on the system, and whether selling special editions of games that release several days before the standard editions is an incentive to buy the former or a punishment for spending less on the latter.
Check out the podcast through iTunes for iOS, on Android with the Stitcher app, or with Pocket Casts on iOS, Android, and Windows. The show can also now be found on the recently launched Google Play Music for podcasts. Subscribe and review to help support the show! You can also listen with the streaming player below.
With the All-Star Break nearing the last few weeks of roster updates for MLB The Show 17 haven’t demonstrated the same impact of those that came before them. That could be an indication that a sweeping update of the whole league taking more into consideration this season’s performance of players will be coming at that time. It’s something the development team has done in past editions of The Show.
This week’s roster update only adjusts one player that came into it rated over 83. It does not include the injury to Trea Turner which comes at an unfortunate time for those stocking up on him as he was trending towards eventual Diamond status.
Max Scherzer is the biggest winner of the update going up 2 points to 95 Overall. In June he has a .99 ERA and batters are hitting just .114 off him. He has received +5 to H/9 and +2 to BB/9 and is now second to only Clayton Kershaw in the game’s active starting pitcher rankings.
Other notables on the move include Corey Dickerson (+2 to 85/new Gold), Ender Inciarte (+2 to 84), Kenta Maeda (+3 to 82), Yangervis Solarte (+4 to 80), Tyler Flowers (+4 to 80), Brandon Mauer (-4 to 79), Chris Taylor (+8 to 78), Tyler Clippard (-6 to 75), and Austin Slater (+12 to 74).
A new Diamond Dynasty event has gone live featuring a structure of AL pitchers and NL hitters in three-inning games. It’s open until July 6 with the big rewards being 96 Overall Nolan Ryan (12-win streak) and Evan Longoria (40 wins total). Teams can only have a max Overall of 78 – though the Overall Rating calculation is difficult to understand in these events.
Everyone is also being given a free All-Star Pack which contains just a single player. In order to get it go into the Events area in Missions and advance the “Free All-Star” Mission.
It’s no longer a surprise when a new game releases and online connectivity is inconsistent or completely unfunctional. Unfortunately that’s been the case with The Golf Club 2 which came out on Tuesday. The original didn’t have any problems of the sort but with a sequel that’s likely performing better with consumers the downside to that is an independent developer up against a challenge they may not have been prepared to face.
One of the great things about The Golf Club is that progress is saved after every shot. That means if the servers cut out and you’re dropped from the game you’ll likely be starting at the very same point you were at once they recover (or at most a shot behind if one was in progress). However when the servers are down the majority of the game goes with it.
Some of the courses are playable offline but Career Mode and Online Societies require an online connection. As far as Career Mode being always-online that’s something I failed to recognize for the review that went live Tuesday and I’m not aware if HB Studios made that known prior to release. While I’ve received a server down message a few times numerous attempts to enter those areas of the game have been thwarted without any sort of error notification.
To their credit HB Studios have been posting regularly on the official Twitter account acknowledging the issues and informing work is being done to stabilize the situation. That means little though to people who just want to play and are unable to do so, and with the game releasing in Europe tomorrow the troubles look likely to continue at least through the end of the week.
Barring an unexpected transaction this summer the Houston Rockets will enter NBA 2K18 with the highest rated backcourt in the game. By acquiring Chris Paul in a trade today they’ve passed by the Golden State Warriors duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Paul is rated 91 Overall making him the third best point guard 2K. He’s now paired with James Harden’s 96 Overall. Presumably Harden will be shifting back to more of a traditional shooting guard role but naturally he’ll still have the ball in his hands a lot.
Curry (95) and Thompson (88) now drop to the second highest rated backcourt duo. Next behind them are the Wizards (John Wall 90, Bradley Beal 87) and Raptors (DeMar DeRozan 89, Kyle Lowry 88) though they may be broken up this offseason with the latter entering free agency.
Paul will make the Rockets a much better video game team not just because of the upgrade he represents over Beverley offensively, but dramatically so on defense where he’s 20-35 points ahead in each category when compared to Harden.
