  • Class Action Lawsuit Still Little Threat to Madden or Exclusive Licenses

    Last week a judge certified a class action lawsuit against Electronic Arts with the argument being made that the company has overcharged for the Madden franchise ever since signing the exclusive license deal with the NFL in 2005. The certification as class action really isn't much of a development though, it doesn't mean that it has any better chance of being successful, and it doesn't change the fact that the suit in question is faulty in its claims.     Two significant trades today have shifted a large number of players in the NBA and the Orlando Magic were involved in both of them. They have received Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson, Earl Clark, and Hedo Turkoglu. They send away Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, and Mickael Pietrus to the Phoenix Suns and Rashard Lewis to the Wizards.     The NHL series from EA Sports has been one of the most highly regarded this generation. With NHL 09 in particular the franchise had a resurgence and became more mainstream than many would have anticipated possible. The game began to reach those not necessarily fans of the NHL.     In a surprise development free agent pitcher Cliff Lee has spurned both the Yankees and the Rangers and has signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. Lee played part of 2009 with the team helping lead them to the World Series and then was traded away in the offseason to make room for Roy Halladay. One year later and he will be joining him there.
