    by
    Posted August 14th, 2014 at 10:15 pm 11 Comments »
A special Press Row Hangout came together Thursday night to discuss the news out of Gamescom before turning to the scorching hot topic of the moment. Despite mounting circumstantial evidence that paints a distressing picture EA Sports will neither confirm nor deny the presence of EA Sports Hockey League and GM Connected modes in the XB1/PS4 version NHL 15. The company has only now stated that news related to modes will be discussed next week. The audio from this show will also be featu...

At Gamescom yesterday Sony announced some details on the PlayStation 4 v2.00 console update due out this fall. One new feature will be Share Play, which allows someone who owns a game to invite a friend to play along with them even if that friend doesn't own the game. The best way to think about Share Play is like a “virtual couch”. PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing you to invite a friend to join your game—even when they don’t o...

    by
    Posted August 12th, 2014 at 12:15 pm 17 Comments »
EA Sports made it official yesterday that there would be no demo for Madden NFL 15. Poor timing, that coincided with the EA Access subscription service moving out of beta and becoming available to all on Xbox One, compounded the frustration which was expressed by many through social media, news sites, and forums. I was joined by Rich Grisham and T.J. Lauerman to discuss the development on a special edition of the Press Row Hangout. What the lack of a demo means for Madden 15, for the futu...

Four more viewer questions are discussed in the final two clips from the most recent Press Row Hangout. The topics include The Golf Club and whether there could be more unlicensed sports games in the future, when to expect the Madden NFL 15 demo, why publishers seem to be holding back information on games until later now, and what sports game release in the past generated the most anticipation for the panelists. (more…)...
  • Breaking Down the New EA Access Subscription Service
    by
    Posted July 30th, 2014 at 1:15 pm 20 Comments »
EA Access was announced yesterday and based on the reaction there appears to be quite a lot of interest in the concept of a subscription service which provides a library of older games to play and pre-release play periods for new games. Many who were aware of EA Sports Season Ticket liked what that provided too, which EA Access appears to have improved upon in several areas and offers less in others, but that program was never actively advertised by the company so it never took off. They wil...
  • Press Row Hangout Clips: Importance of Commentary and Some Viewer Questions

The next clips from the most recent Press Row Hangout involve a discussion over the importance of commentary in sports games and answering the first viewer questions. Even more of those will posted tomorrow. Commentary is a big factor in immersion and delivering authentic television-style presentation but many complain about it and go so far as to turn it off or listen to something else when it grows tired. Is commentary an area developers should focus on more? What consoles will lead ...
