With the story earlier this week that EA was considering the idea of offering extended play pay-for-demos I've received a number of questions about it through Twitter so I figured it would be a good subject to address. According to a quote from an EA exec the company could begin creating "premium downloadable content" demos that would have at least a few hours worth a play and give an opportunity for gamers to provide feedback that could improve the final complete version of the game. (mor...
  • EA Sports (Not) Suing Over South Park Episode

In an update to a story posted last night EA Sports has contacted me in order to inform that they have no intention to sue over the South Park episode. The source of the story, Daily Informer, was inaccurate with the posting of the information or just flat out made it up. “Reports that EA SPORTS plans to sue the creators of South Park are false.” This certainly makes a lot more sense as I was initially really surprised at the idea they would sue. The show, given the demographi...

(Update) EA Sports has contacted me in order to inform that they have no intention to sue over the South Park episode. The source of the story, Daily Informer, was inaccurate with the posting of the information. New story can be found here. In the wake of the season premiere of South Park comes news via Daily Informer that EA Sports is planning to sue the creators of the show, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. As mentioned in the article following the episode there were several references made to...

Steve Chiang, who co-founded the Tiburon studio and worked for EA Sports for 15 years, has moved on to take the role of president of development at social gaming company Zynga. The company is best known as the creators of the Facebook phenomenon 'FarmVille'. With Chiang departing that allowed EA to promote Andrew Wilson and Pauline Moller into new roles with the company. Moller, previously general manager at EA Canada, will now be the EA Sports COO. In an interview with Gamasutra, Moller di...
  • South Park Takes on Tiger Woods
    by
    Posted March 18th, 2010 at 12:23 am 20 Comments »
The season premiere of South Park focused on the epidemic of "sex addiction" spreading throughout the country which of course made Tiger Woods the biggest target.  There was a good deal of free publicity for EA Sports as the show made reference to the company and Tiger Woods 11 on multiple occasions. I mean, even look at the cover art there, they got it accurate with Rory McIlroy included. As Cartman states "EA Sports outdid themselves this time" with the version of the game they are playin...

Some of you may already be familiar with Marcus Stephenson. He has been around for quite some time driving community initiatives or just being accessible within the community. After running a Madden fan site for years he took a position as a Community Manager at the EA Canada studio before moving between a few different projects, most notably as a Producer on NBA Live 10. He has now left the EA Sports studio and holds the position of Game Designer for WWE Smackdown vs Raw at THQ. I had the opp...
  • NHL 11 Coming to the Wii?

When it was finally confirmed last week that the NHL 2K series would be halted on the 360/PS3 it was stated that NHL 2K11 would in fact be released on the Wii. At the time it made sense considering the lesser development costs and having no competition on the casual heavy console. Now though it looks like that competition has arrived as a Walmart blog posting has revealed that EA Sports will be bringing NHL 11 to the Wii. EA is going to be bringing their NHL game to the Wii system this year f...
  • Tiger Woods Shares Cover of Tiger 11

EA Sports has posted a blog detailing many of the additions and enhancements coming to Tiger Woods 11. Tiger Woods shares the cover with Rory McIlroy, intended as a representation of how the game will allow players to choose to captain the Americans or Europeans in Ryder Cup play. Much of what else is discussed in the blog are changes made in an effort to produce a more sim experience. It remains interesting considering the circumstances that for the first time ever the cover of the Tiger W...
