As the most nontraditional game in the rankings, Kinect Sports seemed an unlikely candidate all the way up through release. Motion gaming was not high on the list of desire when it came to sports offerings and the Kinect hardware was being questioned as to how viable its performance would be in the real world. Despite that Kinect Sports turned out to be a surprising source of pure fun providing good variety, options, and accuracy making for a very unique experience. (more…)...

There has been plenty of discussion centering around the growth of downloadable content offerings and even modes built around the microtransaction model. Recently there were some details revealing just how lucrative those initiaties have become. What hasn't been looked at with the same analysis is the developments with in-game advertising. This generation has brought about more ad placement within sports titles, for the most part fitting within the real-life scope when it comes to placeme...

Originally developed to be a free Xbox Live Arcade game, Joy Ride was tapped to be converted to a Kinect launch game while still in development. While the XBLA version was going to be free it was going to be supported through microtransactions. Now though it has hit the marketplace as a full priced Kinect title with the motion control support implemented. Unfortunately the final product feels it would have been more appropriate as an XBLA offering. (more…)...

One of the most significant changes for Fight Night Champion comes with a change to the punch controls. While staying on the analogs as the default, the new "Full Spectrum Punch Controls" takes the angle the stick is pushed as opposed to completing various gestures. There will also be a heavy punch modifier taking the place of the haymaker, and personalized punch animations for specific fighters. As expected the button control scheme will remain an option as well. Hopefully being able to st...

The NHL series from EA Sports has been one of the most highly regarded this generation. With NHL 09 in particular the franchise had a resurgence and became more mainstream than many would have anticipated possible. The game began to reach those not necessarily fans of the NHL. It captured the #2 spot with NHL 09 but then didn't make the list with NHL 10 due to a push towards milking consumers through downloadable content and a lack of intriguing upgrades. NHL 11 is still hampered by the focus ...
