    Released prematurely in December and subsequently yanked from the marketplace only hours later - the demo for Grand Slam Tennis 2 has returned to XBL (queue up for download here) and will arrive on PSN later this afternoon.     2011 doesn't necessarily have to be viewed as a down year for sports gaming but it may end up better described as having been a transitional one.     EA Sports has released a new trailer for the upcoming return of SSX - which was recently bumped back to release on February 28th. Travis Rice represents the first real-world snowboarder to be included in the series as a playable character and was in 2010's highly acclaimed documentary The Art of Flight. In this especially effective video he talks over over his strategies on how to survive some of the most treacherous descents on earth as real-life footage is mixed with SSX gameplay footage.Ã...

    Joining the elite class of Pastapadre Game of the Year winners is 2011's top entry FIFA 12. Though not without its own issues what it offered was the most well-rounded and fully-featured experience embodying everything one could ask for out of sports title.     Last year NBA 2K11 transcended the typical sports game genre by beginning to tap into the rich history of the league and featuring Michael Jordan - resulting in a special feel to the edition of the series.     This year brought about many significant developments in sports gaming - from news on exclusive licenses and effects of lockouts, to major changes taking place at the EA Sports Tiburon studio and the introduction of a subscription service, along with continuing concerns over account security with ties to FIFA.     The segment of arcade-style sports offerings has largely been dying out over the course of this console generation.
