Yesterday EA Sports made the official announcement of UEFA EURO 2012. However unlike past releases it will not be a standalone title - instead it arrives on April 24 as $20 downloadable content for FIFA 12. Immediate reaction to the move has seemed generally positive. That appears primarily to be due to the price coming in at $20 as opposed to the $60 it would have been on its own. There's a good chance that consumers who would be interested in UEFA already own FIFA 12 which helps make it...
  • UEFA 2012 Coming In a Matter of Weeks – But Not As a Standalone Title

Given that the UEFA EURO series always releases in spring prior to the official tournament the question of where EA Sports' announcement of the game was considering the late date had arisen. That announcement finally came today and given the news it makes more sense why promotion of the game didn't begin sooner. (more…)...
  • Fan Voting Opens for NHL 13 Cover

With the success of the cover votes for their other sports titles it comes as little surprise that EA Sports is now spreading a similar initiative to the NHL series. The cover athlete of NHL 13 is being determined by fan voting with the first round already underway. All of the 30 teams have two representatives to start which is similar to how Madden NFL 13 handled it. One player will advance from each team to the round of 30 where things change somewhat. Instead of a tournament bracket th...

While the 16 courses available as downloadable content for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 can be had in any number of ways on the Xbox 360 they can't be purchased in the typical fashion over on the PS3. The courses aren't available on PSN/SEN to buy outright. Instead money has to be spent on buying enough in-game "coins" to obtain the courses. It's not about the inconvenience of the matter but rather how the available packs of "coins" don't equal to the costs of the DLC courses. That means some ...
  • DLC Course Prices Rise with Tiger Woods 13

One important feature addition with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is the ability to secure rounds on downloadable content courses using "coins" earned in-game. It'll take some time to evaluate the rate "coins" are earned and how much time with DLC courses that will equate to but early indications are it will not be plentiful enough to significantly erode the value of the DLC and the potential revenue EA Sports expects to earn from it. Taking into account that some consumers may now attempt to a...

Outside of a failure to produce a quality online experience UFC Undisputed 3 delivered a significant advancement over the previous iteration in the series with well-recognized gameplay enhancements and a deep suite of features. The struggles of UFC 2010 forced THQ to reevaluate the viability of the product and ultimately to a decision to move off a yearly release schedule. Despite a nearly two year layoff not only did sales fail to increase but they fell 18% from UFC 2010 which itself was do...

  • Big Sale on Three Recent EA Sports Releases: SSX, FIFA Street, and Grand Slam Tennis 2

In the last month EA Sports relaunched three franchises to mixed results. Those three have now received significant price reductions with SSX and FIFA Street falling to $40 and Grand Slam Tennis 2 down to $30 at Amazon making them much more appealing as potential purchases. SSX (Xbox 360 - PS3) has generally been well received since launching at the end of February. Amazon did originally offer a $10 promo credit with pre-orders so this amounts to an extra $10 shaved off from then. FIFA...
