I used Play Now to get in my first online game with NHL 08 and captured it broken down into three videos by period. Overall the game played very smooth, very close if not identical to offline. I'll need to get some more games in (including the co-op) to make any determination as to ultimately how good the performance is but that is certainly encouraging. Other EA titles over the past few months did not start off this well.  As far as I can tell there is no way to change the difficulty ...

Here is a full game with the CPU vs CPU displaying Superstar difficulty. It should give an idea of how the AI plays on this setting. This is an AHL matchup as the Toronto Marlies visit the Rockford IceHogs. If you watch anything make sure you watch the 3rd period and OT. Continue on to view the videos. (more…)...

The previous two games were played on Pro, so I pushed this one up to All-Star. As a novice it was considerably tougher. I got out-shot by a wide margin and couldn't win a single faceoff. Overall the AI was much more aggressive as you'll see. I'll leave the analyzing of the video to everyone out there. This game features the Colorado Avalanche @ the St. Louis Blues and again is broken down by period into three videos. (more…)...

I went ahead and captured a full game which you can view below. It is broken down by period and each video runs approximately 6-7 minutes long. This was the first game played (not only with 08 but with any hockey game in years) and as such most of the time was spent attempting to feel things out. I'll have general impressions, online play details and impressions, and more videos up on Monday. Continue on to watch the videos (more…)...

I have received my copy of NHL 08. Once I have an opportunity to get a decent amount of time in with the game I'll do what I can to post up my impressions. Those will come from the perspective of someone who isn't a hockey fan. I won't be able to compare the new release to last year's as I didn't play it nor will I be able to answer hockey specific questions. However I will discuss my overall thoughts and whether or not it is a game that would be enjoyable regardless of whet...
