Earlier today Electronic Arts released their third quarter fiscal 2010 report which also included a list of titles planned for release in the coming fiscal year. All the usual suspects were listed with the exception of one. In addition to to that the rumored release date frame for a couple new franchises can be confirmed as well as the addition of a new fighting title in the works. As I've been discussing the likelihood of for months it now appears a foregone conclusion that the NCAA Basket...

The last week was one of the busiest ever in terms of news and updates most of which were very substantial in relation to upcoming releases. It all started with sightings of a promotion to vote on the cover athlete for Madden 11. It turned out that three players (Drew Brees, Reggie Wayne, Jared Allen) were the eligible candidates. Brees is a certain lock and the inclusion of Allen after three DUIs was a surprise but ultimately EA shaped the contest to get the player they wanted all along so th...

There has been a lot of discussion recently about 3D gaming and even some developments towards it becoming a reality. Earlier this month at CES it was MLB 10: The Show on display in 3D. Now EA Sports president Peter Moore has addressed it by talking about it in an interview earlier this week. Absolutely. I'm not making any announcements, but it's no coincidence that of the 3D [TV] broadcasts I've seen in the last two years, I can count the NBA All-Star event in Las Vegas, while ESPN has annou...

While I offered what amounted to retrospectives on the games in my top 10 there are particular areas or achievements from the games that deserve being highlighted. Continue on for the listing of the individual awards for 2009. (more…)...
  • Madden 10 Wins Poll as Favorite Game of 2009

Over the last two weeks votes have been coming in for the sports game that was most enjoyed in 2009. Over 5300 total votes had been cast at the time of publishing this article. That represents a significant number from a large cross-section of gamers and as such is a good indicator of general sentiment towards the titles. While UFC 2009 Undisputed topped my list it was Madden 10 that dominated the polling as the game that the most people considered their favorite of the year. (more…...
  • New EA Sports Game May Be NBA Jam

After a few weeks of speculation and discovery of a possible NFL Trainer game now there is another entry to consider for the new game to be announced by EA this month. ESPN reports the game in question will be an updated version of NBA Jam for the Wii. This is especially surprising given that NBA Jam was made by Midway before passing to Acclaim meaning EA would have purchased the rights to the franchise. Just as with the NFL Trainer game this probably won't elicit much excitement given that...

Back in October NFL jerseys arrived for Xbox 360 avatars. Now NBA and NCAA Football jerseys have joined them in the marketplace. Interestingly in the competitive NBA arena both companies have released similar content. EA Sports has out jerseys for 41 college teams and a generic jersey for each NBA team. 2K Sports has released a jersey for every NBA team which include a number representing a player from each (no name on the back). General response to the NFL jerseys were that they were overp...

At the end of each year I like to look back and recount thoughts on stories that made an impact. Not only because they were big at the time but also because they have an effect on future development and actions that could be taken. These are the stories that were most significant in sports gaming during 2009 or that will most influence the genre going forward. (more…)...
