    Though EA Sports was recently dismissed as a defendant from the player likeness lawsuit originally filed in 2009 it will proceed against the NCAA and Collegiate Licensing Company after surviving another attempt to dismiss by those two parties. The outcome could have significant influence on NCAA licensed sports games in the future so the case remains of high interest.     The hits keep on coming for the EA Sports Tiburon studio. After breaking the news last month that several high ranking developers and executives were departing for the new social gaming studio being headed up by former Tiburon GM Philip Holt even more is happening behind the scenes as a long-tenured Executive Producer is leaving the company.     Though now being viewed as somewhat of a sales disappointment the Nintendo 3DS launched back in late March and was hampered by a weak library of titles. EA Sports is looking to expand on sports offerings, currently limited to just Madden NFL Football and PES 2011, both of which received at best lukewarm reception.     2K Sports has released the full list of changes that accompany the patch for Top Spin 4 that arrived today for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. The patch addresses issues with and provides improvements for general gameplay, online play, and World Tour career mode. (more…)...
  • THQ Will Take Huge Hit Due to PSN Outage

    THQ has put a lot into their pricing experiment that debuts with the release of MX vs ATV Alive tomorrow. The idea has been that releasing a game at a lower entry price (in this case $40) will increase the user base who will then be more likely to spend on expanded downloadable content offerings.     Recently EA Sports made it known that they have three new franchises in the works that have yet to be revealed. With the company releasing their financial reports and fiscal 2012 projections we now know those games are expected to arrive in Q4 (January-March) 2012.  (more…)...

    Originally filed in 2009 while represented by Sam Keller and Ed O'Bannon in two cases that merged and finally reaching the courts back in February the lawsuit regarding improper use of player likenesses by EA Sports, the NCAA, and Collegiate Licensing Company has now reached a significant ruling.     Recently details on a "subscription service" for EA Sports emerged, one that would be offering games up to a week early and DLC carry over from one year to the next as headlining features.
