Two high profile lawsuits against Electronic Arts carried into 2012 with one being settled and another steaming ahead towards a trial. Though the former is now filed away and ended up having very little in the way of lasting impact the other threatens the viability of any college sports video games in the future.  (more…)...

There are always going to be games that fail to deliver on promised features or those that disguise issues in order to avoid negatively affecting sales. There are likely even elements of that going on with every game that releases these days. Companies have generally been able to get away with them because reviewers don't identify the issues and media in general avoid holding them accountable for providing the features and support that consumers rely on. In 2012 there were a few significa...

Kicking off the year-in-review period is the third annual Pastapadre Community Choice Awards. Last year FIFA 12 walked away with the top honors but there was much more competition present in the field than when NBA 2K11 swept just about every award in 2010. This year appears to be competitive yet again as there are a number of titles that offer outstanding aspects but find themselves deficient in some other way. There is no clear standout that would sweep the awards or is a sure thing to ...

Also appearing in the top 10 for North America were WWE 13 in 9th place and FIFA 13 in 10th.  (more…)...

The outlook for the Nintendo Wii U has never seemed especially bright. There is a level of confusion about what the new system is - many don't even realize it is more than just a new controller - and it arrives a year before Sony and Microsoft roll out their new hardware that will instantly make it feel as though it is a generation behind. That the console is readily available at retailers even following Black Friday is a sign of either surprisingly low awareness and consumer interest or muc...

Though no where near as extensive as the deals found in stores and around the web for Black Friday there are a number of options still available for those who may have missed out on earlier opportunities. These deals generally run just through the end of the day. Origin has the EA Sports slate at 50% off original retail price which approaches the lowest they have been available for (limited copies went for for $5 cheaper a few days ago through Amazon and Walmart). Amazon NHL 13 lightning d...

Here is a look at the listed deals for various retailers on sports games and others that may be of interest. Unless otherwise specified they apply to the 360/PS3 versions. Those with a Microsoft Store nearby that are looking for 360 games can get some real steals. Otherwise Amazon has the strongest offerings online through their upcoming "lightning deals" and Walmart is best among brick-and-mortar stores. Keep an eye on Twitter and Facebook for any time-sensitive deal alerts over the coming ...
