With Madden NFL 15 added to the Vault in EA Access this week the value of the service continues to rise. Bringing in Madden, NBA Live 15, and EA Sports UFC - games that still have significant relevance to them - has greatly boosted the appeal of the subscription particularly for those who are interested in sports games. To go along with a piece I put together going over EA Access and its draw for sports gamers (check it out at Sporting News), Rich Grisham and T.J. Lauerman joined me to di...

In a recent Press Row Podcast episode I proposed the idea again that MLB: The Show, which has struggled mightily with online performance and stability since inception, should offer an "Extra Innings" mode online. That proposal generated a significant response from listeners on social media and forums intrigued by the concept and the benefits it would offer - along with expressing hope that other sports games could include unique online experiences.  (more…)...

In 2013 OOTP Developments, creators of the Out of the Park Baseball franchise, debuted Franchise Hockey Manager. The game was met with mixed reviews that trended negative as a large number of users cited frequent crashes and other elements deemed disappointing or troublesome. Later this year the company will release Beyond the Sidelines Football in an attempt to break into the untapped market in that sport for PC management sims. With response to the first Franchise Hockey Manager in m...

Though it doesn't have a following in North America there is one sports game due out this month. Rugby 15 is set to release February 24 on PS4, Xbox One, and PS3. Amazon has it listed for $50 (PS4/XB1) and $40 (PS3) but is also including a $10 promotional credit with pre-orders. Rugby 15 comes from developer HB Studios whose most recent effort is The Golf Club - released last year and still being actively worked on. Rugby is published by Maximum Games, which it appears will also be handli...

EA's stock hit a seven year high yesterday following the report of third quarter fiscal results which highlighted soaring digital revenue. The primary drivers behind that success have been the Ultimate Team modes in sports games and free-to-play mobile games. The inevitability of free-to-play reaching consoles has never been more evident than now. CEO Andrew Wilson essentially laid out plans for that during the quarterly investor call. Gamespot noted the comments in an article ea...

Considering how offended Doug Baldwin gets by being called average, one has to wonder how he'd react to Madden NFL 15's evaluation of the Seahawks wide receivers. They rate out one spot from the bottom of the league, even behind a team like the Chiefs that went a whole season without a receiver catching a single touchdown! Maybe they shouldn't be higher, but there's a number of teams then that are slightly or significantly overrated at the position. Russell Wilson had the worst game of hi...

With NPD reports in for December the entirety of 2014 can be analyzed and three sports games finished in the top ten of sales for the year. NBA 2K15 finished the year in seventh place and FIFA 15 came through in ninth place. It's important to note that NPD only covers North America. NBA ...
