NBA Jam: On Fire Edition is only backwards compatible sports game on Xbox One
Today Microsoft revealed the initial list of games receiving backwards compatibility on Xbox One when the functionality launches for the system on Thursday. As expected the sports gaming genre has little representation with only one game in the mix.
NBA Jam: On Fire Edition will be available with the first batch of games. Originally released November 2011, OFE was a $15 downloadable-only title. It was fairly well received, with 85/81 on Metacritic, but also followed only a year after t...
Konami apologizes for PES 2016 roster issues but a fix is still weeks away
While Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 has garnered the highest Metacritic score for a sports game since 2013, those reviews obviously couldn't take into account developments that would occur in the weeks and months after release. Support for the series has always been shaky and in a year where publisher Konami made its intentions clear that they will be focusing on mobile game development instead of console products going forward - with the exception of the PES franchise - it's unsettling to...

The latest Press Row Podcast features panel discussion on one of the most sensitive topics in the sports gaming realm. Outside of just a few unsuccessful unlicensed attempts, Madden has had the professional football category all to itself for a decade now. Is there any scenario in the future under which a competitor could rise in the market? Or will Madden be the "NFL's product" that goes unchallenged for the next decade as well?

First roster update finally out for PES 2016
It took over six weeks but Konami has now released a full roster update for Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 that extends its reach to all modes in the game. While PES 2016 has been received near universal praise - it's the highest rated sports game since 2013 - the need to wait so long for a simple roster update understandably led to some level of frustration from fans.
Unfortunately even now Konami has been forced to acknowledge that a number of transfers were not included - something they ...

What is your go-to sports game right now?
With all the sports games out for the year attention turns towards actually playing them instead of just following news and developments in anticipation of them. Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 has emerged from the group as the highest rated sports game since 2013, while FIFA 16 and NBA 2K16 are dominating in terms of worldwide sales.
Of course there's also Madden NFL 16 which has a strong hold on many, some may be settling in with NHL 16, revisiting MLB 15: The Show due to postseason interest,...

The new content keeps flowing for the phenomenal Rocket League, and the latest addition is as timely as they come. The DeLorean featured in the classic Back to the Future film trilogy is available to download now for $2 on both PlayStation 4 and PC. The car comes with its recognizable custom wheels and trail.
Today of course is the actual day that Marty McFly traveled to in Back to the Future II. This acts as the first licensed downloadable content for Rocket League. With that windo...
The sports games being prioritized for play-time now, and examining the differing development philosophies of EA and 2K
With the full slate of sports games for the year released Rich Grisham joined me this week to discuss two different subjects related to them. In the first video we go over the games we're currently playing and which have fallen off the map. With so many having released in a small window of time unavoidable choices have to be made.
The second video is focused on how dramatically different the development philosophies have proven to be when comparing the two biggest sports games i...
