  • How to make a fool of yourself…

Occasionally I stumble across an article that I think is poorly written or has an uninformed opinion. Most are tolerable and forgettable. This piece though by Stan Donaldson of the Detroit Free Press, a supposed "mini review" of NCAA March Madness 07, is the epitome of poor journalism and a great example of how to make a fool of yourself. Speaking or writing on topics you have no idea about. First of all he states that March Madness 07 is worse than the 06 version. As ridiculous as that s...

A recent article on the Next Generation website went into some detail on the new GamerNet feature that will be unveiled in Tiger Woods 08. The outlook is that GamerNet, and the user created content that it represents, will become prevalent in future titles from the company. We've already seen that materialize with the initial news out on NCAA Football 08. An EA rep said that GamerNet is “not necessarily” something that will be implemented into every EA Tiburon game, but “as for the fu...

IGN has posted a first look at Tiger Woods 08. In it two new innovative features are touched upon. 'Photo Face' which involves scanning your own face into the game for your created golfer, and 'GamerNet' a youtube style video service for the game. GamerNet clearly targets the YouTube and MySpace generation. Gamers, EA says, have changed. We play online, we share pictures and video clips, we fight for achievement points and gamer score and virtual trophies. Using a nifty new technology, the ...

The Orlando Sentinel reported today that the EA Sports Tiger Woods franchise will be moving from the Redwood City studio in California to the Florida based Tiburon studio. The local studio's heft continued to grow Tuesday with the announcement that the Tiger Woods PGA Tour video-game series has been shifted to Tiburon from an EA site in California. "It makes sense for us to have the franchise here," said Steve Chiang, EA Tiburon's general manager and one of the original studio's three f...

Since the Xbox 360's launch and subsequent utilization of the Marketplace there has been a great deal of debate over the subject of downloadable content. What is worthwhile? What is a waste? Are companies holding back on things only to release them later as D.C.? Lets take a look at some of the things that have been offered in sports titles thus far to see how the releases have progressed. Madden 07 downloadable stadium (300 MS points = $3.75): A lot of work went into the stadiums, but i...

Microsoft has officially announced a keyboard attachment for the Xbox 360 controller. The main reasoning behind the need for the keyboard is being attributed to the new Windows Live Messaging features being introduced in the spring update. However this will surely be a great addition for anyone who spends time editing rosters in sports games. While the use of a USB keyboard is supported by the 360, this attachment actually will be much more convenient and cut down on the time spent inputtin...
  • A positive result from exclusive licensing

Amidst all the anger and frustration that has settled in for fans of games that were adversely affected by exclusive licenses comes at least one thing to appreciate and look forward to. The companies who hold the licenses must come up with new ways to generate revenue to offset those costs, and the companies who do not hold them must be more creative and unique in the games that they offer to consumers. NFL Head Coach was released last year by EA Sports, an attempt at a coaching simulation/st...
  • Ask Padre #1: Online Co-Op
    by

Lately we've seen online co-op become more prevalent in games, Crackdown being possibly the most publicized and utilized. Virtua Tennis 3 was just released on the 360 and it included co-op matches in doubles play. Despite that addition to the sports lineup, it seems that thus far this is something that hasn't been given the level of attention or consideration that many people have hoped for. That may actually be the case with online play in general. In my discussions with EA Sports rep...
