  • The future of NBA Live appears bleak

The news on NBA Live 16's abysmal sales has brought into greater focus the precarious position the series finds itself in now. With a brand that seems irreparably damaged, at some point EA Sports will be forced into the decision of shutting it down for good, or spinning it into something dramatically different than it is now. With that in mind, Rich Grisham and I discuss the current situation for NBA Live, how it ended up in this place, considerations that the company has been and will be...
  • No one bought NBA Live 16

It was evident that NBA Live 16 was DOA as soon as it released. Activity numbers in the game were dreadful, and ever since even at peak hours there aren't more than 120 or so people connected and playing. While it's difficult to get any actual sales numbers these days we now have a true indication of just how poorly the game has done.  (more…)...

While the big deals won't come around until Black Friday in late November, there are already a few opportunities to grab games that are only a matter of weeks old at considerable discounts. Amazon has several for well under the $60 they were not too long ago and a promotion at Toys "R" Us is worth considering if in the market for more than one EA Sports game. Amazon FIFA 16: $44 on Xbox One or $48 on PlayStation 4 Madden NFL 16: $45 on Xbox One or $49 on PlayStation 4 Pro Evolution ...

NBA Live 16 is a fun game to play, but is that enough to catapult the series to a place where it has become actual competition - and is potentially worth a purchase decision - after five years of misery? Check out the complete review of the game over at Sporting News today. For those on the fence, the demo is a great opportunity to get a feel for the game as it contains pretty much everything that's new to Live for this year. EA Sports is even keeping the online Pro-Am portion of it...

The demo for NBA Live 16 has essentially showcased all the major improvements to the game for this year with the online Pro-Am modes and of course basic gameplay. That makes the EA Access trial period less of an event, but there's a lot that has opened up through it as well. I'm working towards a review for Sporting News that will go up Monday. Until then, check out some of the early gameplay videos that have been captured from the full game!  (more…)...
  • 10 hour trial for NBA Live 16 now available through EA Access on Xbox One

NBA Live 16 is out now to download as a timed trial with EA Access on Xbox One. Subscribers to the service will get 10 hours of playtime after which it will expire. The timer is ticking down whenever the game is loaded regardless of whether it is being played, menus are being navigated through, or if there is any activity taking place at all. So make sure to exit out and close the application from the Xbox One home screen when not in use. The 10 hours are there to play whether or no...
  • EA gambled in attempt to get NBA Live 16 positive publicity and they lost

The NBA Live franchise has somehow made it through arguably the worst five year stretch of any sports game of our time. A cancellation, a year off, another cancellation, a terrible release they later apologized for, and a decent effort that saw sales fall because of the previous year. EA Sports can't seem to catch a break - but often it's of their own doing. That's the case again after awful player faces for some of the professionals in the game went viral yesterday. Many of the faces ...
  • NBA Live 16 demo impressions

Last year with NBA Live 15, EA Sports was able to get the series back to a level of respectability. It still lagged far behind the competition in just about every aspect however and question remained on its viability in today's marketplace. For NBA Live 16 the company is going all-in with two new online modes, both of which fall under Live Pro-Am, and continued improvement to gameplay. Will that be enough when the rest of the game is essentially unchanged?  (more…)...
