  • EA Sports UFC Reviews Trending Behind Past THQ and EA MMA Efforts

    Posted June 17th, 2014 at 12:45 pm 19 Comments »
EA Sports UFC is out today and the reviews coming in early peg it as the weakest of the major games representing the sport in recent years. Lack of content and an arcade rather than sim approach are being considered - though fun factor regardless of that has been widely identified and online play appears to offer much more enjoyment than taking on the CPU. Metacritic Scores EA Sports UFC (2014) 69/77 UFC Undisputed 3 (2012) 85/86 EA Sports MMA (2010) 79/77 UFC Undisputed 2010 85...

EA used the opportunity to promote EA Sports UFC during their press conference today and to no surprise leveraged the inclusion of Bruce Lee to attempt and reach the non-hardcore MMA crowd. He is available as a pre-order bonus through all retailers and digital and otherwise could be unlocked by completing Career mode. The gameplay demo featured Lee against B.J. Penn. • Press Row Hangout Clip: EA Sports UFC Demo Impressions

In another clip from the latest Press Row Hangout the panel discusses the EA Sports UFC demo. The two main areas of concern seem to fall on the realism and the complexity of the game. Can UFC draw in consumers with the built-for-next-gen visuals or is the game inherently never going to reach a more casual crowd due to the necessary complicated controls? Make sure to check out my full impressions here and watch the half hour UFC hangout segment below. ComplexEmbed.Application.initialize...
  • EA Sports UFC Demo Impressions

The demo for EA Sports UFC holds a great deal of importance for the new series. The goal with it is to appeal to both the hardcore fight fans and a more casual crowd while also trying to shake off the stigma of the THQ series which lost 70% of its consumer base over the course of three releases. UFC 2009 Undisputed had a demo that was so dynamic and exciting it propelled the launch to heights well beyond what THQ had forecasted. It allowed the game to attract a crowd that wasn't limited t...
  • EA Sports Releases UFC Tutorial Videos and Controller Maps

    Posted June 3rd, 2014 at 3:00 pm 8 Comments »
Though EA Sports seems to be targeting a somewhat casual crowd with the UFC game due out in less than two weeks - the game doesn't play like a true sim of the sport and leans towards action packed fun factor instead - it's anything but accessible. Certainly much of that is simply inherent in MMA given the number of options at a fighters disposal and individual styles. Translating that to any control scheme will result in an overwhelming number of abilities to access based on the context of a...

When EA Sports announced a pre-release demo would be released for the upcoming UFC title the most likely date for it to settle on was Tuesday, June 3. Today the company officially confirmed that as the date for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 which means it lands one week prior to its showing at E3, and two weeks prior to the retail release. The only additional detail provided on the demo is that it will feature the two cover athletes - Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson....
