GTA IV and other news
It goes without saying that today is GTA IV day. I doubt there will be much (if any) sports gaming news or info to be released with all the concentration around GTA. So I'll be online playing (360) this evening and anyone who'd like to get together for some matches just leave your info in the comments. If there is anything interesting relating to the sports titles that makes its way out today I'll be sure to get it up as usual.
I expect the daily NCAA Football 09 screenshots to return on T...
EA GameShow now web playable
Yesterday EA GameShow launched a flash version to go along with the downloadable version which has been available since October. That means you're now able to play GameShow online without having to download the program. It can be launched directly from the official website. I haven't yet been able to test it out to see if it is as responsive and as fully featured as the downloadable version.
This is another in a string of updates to the very addictive live interactive trivia game and there ...
EA Football World site launches
A few days ago EA Sports launched the EA Football World website. If you have already registered on EA Sports World then the same log-in will access Football World. Normally I wouldn't take much interest in a site that is dedicated to soccer games (right now it is used solely for UEFA 2008). However it actually provides a look at some of what the Sports World website will offer when it relaunches this summer.
Immediately noticeable improvements include the removal of heavy flash elements whi...
Take Two stockholder meeting today
The annual Take Two stockholder meeting is scheduled to take place later today beginning at 6:30et/3:30pt. You'll be able to listen in live here. Normally this would just be business as usual however the looming takeover attempt by EA is prominent. Potentially something dramatic could happen such as a new board being elected (it happened last year) that is open to the bid. Or the stockholders could vote in a poison pill that would make it more difficult for EA to succeed at least at the curren...
What constitutes skill in sports gaming?
Over at 5WG there is what I find to be a fascinating back and forth discussion regarding "skill" in sports gaming. It's definitely worth a full read through here and part two here. The trigger for the topic was a recent Game Informer issue which stated that MLB 2K8 requires more skill to play than MLB 08: The Show. Basically the thinking behind that is the unique control schemes force users to build up skill by utilizing them as opposed to The Show which is more traditional and straight forwa...
EA Extends In-Game Ad Deal
EA has extended an agreement with Massive to provide in-game advertising for their 360 and PC titles. They originally partnered up in August 2006 and have now tacked on another two years.
Tuesday's agreement with Massive is essentially an extension and expansion of a previous one-and-a-half year deal with the New York-based ad firm. With the new global deal, EA said the next two iterations of annual EA Sports franchises such as Madden NFL, NBA Live, NASCAR and NHL will use the Massive in-...
Peter Moore’s blog now a blog
A little over a month ago EA Sports President Peter Moore launched a community based blog. While some were interested in the content that was overshadowed by the fact that the entries were being posted in a forum. Not exactly the most visually appealing way to present it or the most user friendly to interact and leave comments. At various places where the news of the blog being started appeared there turned out to be more discussion over the format than the general idea or content.
Thankf...
EA Sports moving to server-based online play?
As has been covered here thoroughly, EA Sports (and in actuality all sports game publishers) have struggled to meet even the most basic of expectations with online play. Recent titles out of EA Canada such as NHL, FIFA, and NBA Live 08 have shown some great improvements in both performance and options/modes. To date though the Tiburon titles (Nascar, NCAA Football, Madden) have been extremely disappointing in both areas when evaluating their online play.
Lets go ahead and discount the lac...
