Rumors of a football game from the makers of Out of the Park Baseball and Franchise Hockey Manager have been essentially confirmed today after "leaking" information to Operation Sports and then promoting it on their Facebook and Twitter feeds. Beyond the Sideline Football appears then to be the third PC sim management game from the developer. Beyond the Sideline will feature real NFL players and teams, real colleges and actual prospects to draft by name, all the same rules and regulations...
  • EA’s Deal With NFL No Surprise But Questions Remain Including Exclusivity Status

Somewhat lost in the news yesterday that Electronic Arts has several years ahead under current deals with the NFL was the lack of specifics relating to terms. Many reports that followed have made the assumption nothing changed through the process despite evidence to the contrary. Just two years ago it was made clear that EA would not re-up without new consideration to the market value of the license and their standing as the only company prepared to release a product up the the league's stan...
  • EA Has The NFL License Secured For At Least a Few More Years

    Posted January 28th, 2014 at 2:45 pm 69 Comments »
In 2011 the exclusive NFL license with Electronic Arts was extended an additional year taking the deal through what would be Madden NFL 25. Given the lack of any comment from the parties speculation as to what was taking place behind the scenes has naturally occurred and rumors originating from unreliable sources have swirled. The two previous extensions were made two years in advance of expiration yet here only a matter of days remained until it would presumably end. At some point, wi...

T.J. Lauerman of ThatSportsGamer (Twitter - Website) recently joined me to play through a Super Bowl XLVIII matchup in Madden NFL 25 on PS4. Check out the video below along with our discussion during the game which unfortunately had to be played in Denver given the inability to play online in a neutral stadium or with Super Bowl presentation. Later this week look for a Super Bowl preview podcast with myself, Rich Grisham, and Gus Ramsey of ESPN! var complextvadtag = (typeof(cmnvideotag...

  • Lack of NFL License News Raises Questions
    by
    Posted January 16th, 2014 at 2:30 pm 68 Comments »
Almost two years have passed since the NFL extended the exclusive video game license with EA Sports. At the time the events made it obvious that the satisfied partner in the relationship was the NFL and not EA. It was evident that EA would later seek to secure much more favorable terms come negotiation time. An extension to the exclusive license has still not been announced. In the past that news has come in February (2008 and 2011) each time two years in advance of expiration. Now though...

Notable names rising include Aldon Smith (+1 to 97), NaVorro Bowman (+2 to 96), Robert Quinn (+1 to 96), Kyle Williams (+1 to 95), Eric Weddle (+1 to 95...

PlayStation 3 owners got the benefit of special deals in recent weeks with MLB 13: The Show for $10 and NHL 14 for $15. Buying them digitally even made sense for those who already had them on disc and could re-sell them for more than that. Now those with Xbox 360s can take advantage of a similar offer. NCAA Football 14 is available as a digital download through Xbox Live for just $15. There are no real discounts on the game elsewhere - even Amazon has new copies sitting at $60 with used c...
