Given that anticipation for a new football game has been especially high in recent months, with Joe Montana Football 16 expected later this year and Mutant Football League coming at some point down the line, it's interesting to evaluate the market for such games. There have been so few unlicensed sports games to emerge over the last decade as companies have avoided the risk with development costs rising and consumers demanding all products meet a quality threshold which necessitates...
  • Your Thoughts on Potential Interest in Unlicensed Football Games

It's been nearly five years since a console football game last released that didn't carry with it NFL and NFLPA licensing. Backbreaker in 2010 followed All Pro Football 2K8 from 2007 and neither received a sequel. The last truly successful unlicensed game was Blitz: The League which came out in 2005. The limited market, greater development costs, and higher consumer expectations have made projects such as those increasingly difficult to justify and stay alive beyond the conceptual process...

In a piece put together for The Sporting News today I broke down the five teams that have benefited the most, and the five that have taken the biggest hit, in terms of how appealing their rosters will be for Madden NFL 16 following trades and the first stage of free agency. The AFC East, other than the reigning champion Patriots, have really improved their stature for the upcoming game. The Jets and Bills still don't have a good quarterback but they do have two options to consider now ...

After months of speculation revolving around Joe Montana Football 16, and more recently faulty rumors backed by questionable motivations, an image provided by the game's namesake on Twitter has seemingly cleared up one of the major questions about the upcoming product: it won't carry with it any NFL licensing.  (more…)...

The new league year is underway in the NFL, with trades and some signings taking place the last few weeks, and free agency officially having opened less than an hour ago. Many of the big names are now off the market after agreeing to deals that began being negotiated over weekend and were made official today and some huge trades have just gone down. Here's a look at the impact players who have been moved or made commitments already with their new teams in Madden NFL 15, accompani...
  • Madden NFL 15 Added to EA Access Vault

    Posted March 4th, 2015 at 3:15 pm 3 Comments »
The latest addition to the EA Access "Vault" on Xbox One is Madden NFL 15. Today the game joined NBA Live 15 and EA Sports UFC as the most recent sports titles to be offered as part of the subscription service. The EA Access service is currently exclusive to Xbox One as Sony opted not to allow it for the PS4 claiming, of all things, "lack of value" for consumers. It’s $30 for a full year or $5 month-to-month. Members get unlimited access to the Vault which contains older EA g...
  • Leading Madden NFL 16 Cover Candidates

Over at Sporting News I put together a piece laying out the most likely candidates for the cover of Madden NFL 16. The eventual selection by EA Sports, or winner if it goes to a vote, will probably come out of the top three. However the list goes 15 deep with the players that could have the best case made for them coming away with the cover honor this year. Outside of the top three every player has something significant that would work against them. Who do you think should be in the runni...

Joe Montana Football 16 was announced last July simply to make its existence known along with the intent for it to release this coming summer. No information about the game was provided and since then very little has been disseminated. Originally thought to be just a mobile game the developers - or Montana who seems to be running the show - have left the eventual platforms open to speculation. A post made by a new user, with absolutely no established history, on the Operation Spo...
