Gamespot has posted an article regarding some of the new additions for NBA 2K8. Up until now the only thing that had been revealed was the addition of "Blacktop mode" which includes a dunk contest and 3-point shootout. When playing NBA 2K8, you might notice a small icon underneath a player's feet, one that looks suspiciously like cell phone reception bars. No, NBA 2K8 won't have LeBron asking if you can hear him now; instead, the cell icon represents your player's sh...

VG Chartz has posted up the the latest sales numbers which includes the full first week of Madden 08. Combined with all the platforms it was released on Madden 08 sold approximately 1.8 million copies. That would be drop from last year's 2 million and just about in line with what Madden 06 did. However that decrease in the overall number was expected considering the heavier shift from one console generation to the next. Because of the higher prices of the games on the 36...

Today brought the announcement of a new football game coming to the 360 and PS3 titled Backbreaker. Made by NaturalMotion using their Euphoria engine, the focus is on tackling. Every tackle will be unique. Of course, with such an emphasis placed on tackling, one might wonder if Backbreaker's gameplay will be closer to simulation, ala Madden, or perhaps an arcade style similar to NFL Blitz. Issuing a sly smile, Torsten shrugged and said, "It's probably not right to go with either ...

A new producer blog has been posted that goes over the details of the recent announcement that EA had obtained the FIBA license for the NBA Live games begining with 08. Among the topics discussed are the rosters which they are only allowed to use players who have participated in a FIBA World Championship league sponsored event such as the qualifying tournament which will take place next month. This is why Kobe Bryant will not be on the initial USA team roster. However it is stated th...
  • The Michael Vick era of Madden soon to come to an end

With Michael Vick admitting guilt to federal dogfighting and conspiracy charges, there is no question that EA will look to remove him from Madden 08 completely. Both the NFL and EA will not want to be associated with him by having him in their game any longer. Examples of (somewhat) similar situations from this year include Pacman Jones not being in the game at all due to his year long suspension and Odell Thurman being removed from the game in the first roster update as his suspension was exte...
  • The response to Madden 08

Something I have been fascinated with over the last week has been the reaction to Madden 08 on various forums. Despite getting high reviews there seems to be more negativity than ever. Now, negativity is nothing new around release time. Especially for EA Sports games that seem to attract a crowd that just loves to bash them for any given reason (real or not). So that in itself isn't new. However it seems as if more people than ever are demanding drastic changes. The interesting thing is tha...

I have written a guest blog for the EA Sports NBA Live 08 website detailing the 10 games of the upcoming NBA season that I am anticipating the most. 5) 12/17 Phoenix Suns @ San Antonio Spurs We get the rematch of the real NBA Finals. Only this time there will be no suspensions for leaving the bench, Steve Nash's nose will hopefully be healed by tip-off, and there will be no Tim Donaghy. I'm obligated to add that Tony Parker married Eva Longoria over the off-season. You can check out ...

Two new EA Sports producer blogs have been posted. One covers the details of the recruiting process in NCAA Football 08 and offers tips on how to maximize results. The other discusses how the progression system in Madden 08 works. These are two topics that have been brought up on numerous forums and EA has reacted by posting these blogs to provide answers to the community. In the case of NCAA much of the recruiting aspect is seen as overwhelming to fans of the game. The hardcore Dynasty mo...
