After much recent anticipation, largely driven by the lack of gameplay videos and impressions so close its release date, the Backbreaker demo arrived for the Xbox 360. Reaction has been mixed with most gamers enjoying the Euphoria physics, polarization on the single camera angle, and the troubling CPU AI leading to the most concern. Continue on to read through my thoughts on the demo so far and leave yours in the comments! (more…)...

The case of American Needle v. NFL took an interesting turn today with the Supreme Court ruling that the league can not use the single entity argument in an antitrust lawsuit. American Needle has been suing after they lost the ability to create NFL licensed merchandise. They were able to produce official NFL hats with teams that they had individual agreements with until the league made a league-wide deal with Reebok that granted exclusive 10 year rights. The lower courts had found that anti...

While I'm still working on collecting impressions on the Backbreaker demo (pages of notes already) I wanted to get up a handful of gameplay videos. Overall I've been really impressed with the organic nature of the player interaction and tackling and have found myself enjoying the running game as well as kickoffs. On the other hand issues with the camera, the CPU's inept offensive performance and particularly their frequent throwing of INTs, and dislike of the passing game have pulled me in the...

  • Gus Johnson Made Official for Madden 11

Audio presentation was identified as one of the most disappointing areas of Madden 10 and EA Sports has addressed that for Madden 11 with the replacement of play-by-play announcer Tom Hammond with Gus Johnson. Johnson will now team up doing PBP with Cris Collinsworth as the color man. Though we've known about his addition to the game for a month the excitement about the change really hasn't died down. His inclusion is being received extremely well having garnered 34% of the vote in the poll fr...

Considering the three different modes and six teams it includes it comes in at a surprisingly slim 414MB. Exhibition games are locked at two minute quarters with the mode (Arcade, Pro) and difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard) selectable. Impressions and videos to come starting today and through the weekend. In the meantime leave your thoughts on the demo in the comments!...
