The roster update for Madden 11 this week will be the first since week 15 of the NFL season and is expected to encompass a wider evaluation on the season rather than just looking the developments at the end. This will probably be the biggest one remaining as the rest will concentrate on the playoffs and return players from the IR following the Super Bowl. How about Tramon Williams and James Starks for the Packers? A bunch of Seahawks played at a level unseen this season with Marshawn Lynch ...

The fifth in the line of podcasts from Madden developers features Ian Cummings, Donny Moore, and designer Anthony DiMento as a guest. On the table this time is some general talk about online play for Madden 12, free Madden Moments Live for the playoffs, no roster update until next week, and answering questions from the community. The podcast runs about a half hour and can be listened to in-browser or via iTunes where it should be available shortly. If you missed it over the holiday period mak...
  • #3 of 2010: NCAA Football 11

Coming off a flat year that created some concern about the future viability of the franchise, NCAA Football 11 stepped up with significant improvements to gameplay and valuable feature additions. Sales numbers got a bump of 8% in the first month showing how the proper priorities could result in a shift of consumer interest, but even accounting for that the series has not been able to display necessary growth throughout the generation. Regardless NCAA Football 11 has become arguably the most co...

Following a week off the final regular season roster update for Madden 11 is expected out by the end of the week. Week 17 of the NFL season is not a great one though for analyzing players since many of the games involve one or both of the teams having nothing to play for. If you missed it check out my look at the ratings for those players selected to the Pro Bowl as well as highly rated ones that didn't make the cut. Arian Foster sealed up the rushing title by going for 180 and totaled 1616...
  • Madden 11 Ratings vs Pro Bowl Selections

The Pro Bowl is hardly the most accurate way to assess the years that players are having. Some names get in more based on reputation or market exposure than performance in the current season. Still it can present the big picture of the season and in this sense I thought it'd be interesting to look at the current ratings of Pro Bowl selected players in Madden 11 as well as the highest rated players who didn't make it. In doing so there could be some overrated or underrated players exposed. (mo...

Though there will be no roster update this week for Madden 11 the performances from NFL week 16 of course will factor into the next one. For the first time ever this posting goes up on a Wednesday, as it follows the completion of the rare Tuesday Night Football broadcast! The Pro Bowl rosters were announced yesterday so it is possible those will be updated coming up too. This was a relatively flat week in performances, which is particularly tough considering it was the Championship week for...
  • #6 of 2010: Madden NFL 11

Madden faces far and away the heaviest scrutiny of any sports game franchise. Various boundaries placed on the series have kept the game from really breaking out of the perception that each year simply brings about a marginal upgrade. Madden 10 was an excellent attempt even exceeding many expectations but Madden 11 failed to follow-up on that. A change in philosophical direction and a move to appeasing casual players proved to be a mistake but one that could be corrected going forward. (more&...
  • Class Action Lawsuit Still Little Threat to Madden or Exclusive Licenses

Last week a judge certified a class action lawsuit against Electronic Arts with the argument being made that the company has overcharged for the Madden franchise ever since signing the exclusive license deal with the NFL in 2005. The certification as class action really isn't much of a development though, it doesn't mean that it has any better chance of being successful, and it doesn't change the fact that the suit in question is faulty in its claims.
