The New York Times recently posted a detailed look at Madden 11 and the usage rates in online play of every NFL team. The data is tracked from the start of the season up to the Super Bowl and shows trends and some points of interest explaining any notable shifts in usage. The Eagles finish the season as the most popular team online which is no surprise considering their explosive offense. Despite down seasons the Vikings finished #2 overall and the Cowboys #4 (though they did lose some supp...
  • Madden 12 SOK Now Limited to One Per Game

Just yesterday I wrote at length regarding how surprise onside kicks would best be handled in Madden 12. The simplest, though not necessarily most ideal solution, would be to limit it to one attempt per game. Teams don't attempt surprise onside kicks more than once because the opposition is much more aware of the possibility and the risk-reward ratio is not nearly as enticing with field position being so valuable. In an interview with ESPN today Ian Cummings has stated that the limit, which...

Throughout the debate regarding the potential inclusion of surprise onside kicks to Madden 12 there were several factors that came up for consideration. Chief among them if the rate they are attempted in the NFL warranted the development time. Also what is their success rate and how do you implement an element of surprise to a video game? (more…)...

  • Review: Offensive Messages Mar Generally Miserable Broadcast of Madden Bowl

The attempt at broadcasting the Madden Bowl live through ESPN3 was admirable. There is definite interest in watching NFL players going head-to-head in Madden. While the technical side was excellent (ESPN3 is amazing to watch on the Xbox 360) the program spent far too much time focusing on everything but the games being played. Add to that the lack of foresight to turn off message notifications and things turned disastrous. (more…)...

The next roster update for Madden NFL 11 is scheduled to be out on Friday and is largely centered on the events of the Divisional and Conference Championship rounds. The Packers and Steelers of course are the biggest beneficiaries while the Falcons and Patriots take the biggest hits as the #1 seeds that lost to the #6 seeds at home. James Harrison moves to 99 overall making him the top rated linebacker in the game and Aaron Rodgers is edging closer as he reaches 98. Jay Cutler loses a ...

Creative director Ian Cummings has tweeted that the blog has been approved by PR and will be ready to go. Given the state of the halftime shows at the Super Bowl, and with the Black Eyed Peas the featured act this year, attention can be turned ...
