As mentioned yesterday there are a couple of community events taking place in the near future. The first one covers the three football games as NCAA Football 09, NFL Head Coach 09, and Madden 09 will all be available for significant hands-on time. There will also be some presentations and producer interaction taking place. This will be held next Thursday and Friday (5/29-30) with travel days buffering. When it comes to the subject of embargoes this is how it will likely shape up. NCAA will ...

Gametap has a new interview with NFL Head Coach 09 lead producer Josh Looman. The discussion goes over aspects of the game that are already known if you've been piecing together the information over the past few months, but it is worth a read to get the overall sense of the direction the game has taken. The play editor, free agency negotiations, and NFL Draft among other areas are detailed. You can check out the full interview here. But the coolest thing we have this year has to be the in-gam...

A new producer blog on the NFL Head Coach 09 website has provided a ton of new information in relation to playbooks and team styles. You can read it in full here. We stripped each playbook down to really focus on what is core to it's parent NFL team. Our intent from the start was to make the style of each coach and team evident in the plays they call. We wanted to highlight things like the Tony Dungy Cover 2 defense, which is not only run by the Colts and Bucs, but is also being used all over...
  • NFL Head Coach 09 will have standalone release

Just two weeks ago I wrote how the possibility EA Sports would change their decision to make NFL Head Coach 09 exclusive to the Madden 09 Collector's Edition was still very much alive. Today EA made it official that the game will be out the first week of September to coincide with the opening of the NFL season as a standalone title and will retail for $49.99 This development doesn't change the value of purchasing Head Coach and Madden together (save $20 plus getting it three weeks early) bu...

Earlier the latest screenshots for NFL Head Coach 09 were released. Now Gamespot has posted an updated hands-on with many details on the game. You can check it out here. TeamXbox has posted up nine new screenshots from NFL Head Coach 09. While a ton of screens are already available they have mainly featured the Colts and Tony Dungy along with some of the team facilities and player negotiations. You can check out the new ones here. These images show off some coaches other than Dungy. Herm Edwards, Jack Del Rio, Tom Coughlin, and Marvin Lewis. The remaining ones display a player auction, combine interview, coaching agenda, and sideline cutscene....
  • Could EA change their mind about selling NFL Head Coach 09 separately?
    by
    Posted April 8th, 2008 at 12:27 pm 33 Comments »
Soon after the news was clearly relayed that NFL Head Coach 09 would be exclusive to the 20th Anniversary Edition of Madden 09 I wrote about why the decision didn't make much sense. The value of the Anniversary Edition would not be harmed by selling the game separately for the standard price and being able to save money through purchasing the special edition set. However it would keep people from purchasing Head Coach who had no interest in or already owned Madden. I still feel that this is...
  • Should Head Coach remain exclusive to Madden CE?

    Posted March 29th, 2008 at 4:11 am 64 Comments »
Tucked away near the end of the press release announcing the 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition of Madden 09 was a statement proclaiming that NFL Head Coach 09 would be exclusive to the CE. The news was followed by confirmation from Madden marketing director Chris Erb in an interview with 1UP. For the most part the reaction to the Collectors Edition has been very positive. The main detraction seems to be regarding the Head Coach decision. Packing it in with Madden for what amounts to $3...
