Dexter Premieres to Big Ratings
The fifth season premiere of Dexter represented the most watched season premiere in 15 years for Showtime. The episode drew a total of 2.3 million viewers counting the original showing and the replay. That number is sure to rise quite a bit when on-demand and DVR numbers are factored in.
Up 22% from the fourth season premiere, the 2.3 million came in under the finale of the last season which drew 2.6 million. However a finale tends to bring more live viewers where audiences don't necessaril...

Lone Star Could Be First Casualty of the Fall TV Season
Though it was among the most acclaimed new series premiering this season Fox's Lone Star debuted to such dreadful ratings that questions immediately arose whether the network would cancel it after airing just the one episode. The show grabbed only four million viewers with a stunningly low 1.3 rating in the critical 18-49 demo. It lost over two thirds of the audience that tuned in to its lead-in House.
Fox has come out and stated that Lone Star has not been canceled and a new episode will a...
Boardwalk Empire Renewed for Second Season
After just one episode the HBO series Boardwalk Empire has been renewed for a second season. The pilot, directed by Martin Scorsese, cost an astonishing $18 million to make and going forward the average cost per episode reportedly is $5 million. That is a high number for most hour long dramas on broadcast channels however it actually comes in quite a bit lower than HBO's own The Pacific that aired earlier this year.
The investment has paid off as the show debuted to 4.8 million live viewers...
Thoughts on The Event Premiere
NBC pushed The Event as "event" television, with a heavy marketing campaign and built intrigue around the premise of the show. That can sometimes backfire, as audiences may give it a shot but they are a fickle bunch. If the premiere didn't deliver immediately they could abandon the show. So is The Event more Lost (which solidified a fan base) or FlashForward (which audiences abandoned)?
I came away satisfied with the pilot, it didn't blow me away but I got more of a Lost feel from it which ...
