I've written a few times about just how great Spartacus: Blood and Sand turned out in its first season. After a slow start it quickly became one of my favorite shows, very graphic and unpredictable, and with the balls to have mortality play a big part of the developments even with popular or seemingly important characters. It made for a entertaining ride that culminated in a completely satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately star Andy Whitfield got the news that he needed treatment for non-Hod...

The first trailer for the new TNT series Falling Skies has arrived. The show is produced by Steven Spielberg and stars Noah Wyle and Moon Bloodgood. The premise centers on an alien invasion that leads to occupation of Earth. Falling Skies is set to premiere in June. FALLING SKIES is an exciting new series from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg. Noah Wyle (ER, TNT’s The Librarian movies) stars as a former college professor who becomes the leader of a group of...

This morning the nominations for the 2010 Golden Globes were revealed, with the show taking place January 16 and hosted by Ricky Gervais. The King's Speech surprisingly received the most movie nominations ahead of The Fighter and The Social Network. True Grit was stunningly shut out as was Hereafter. Glee leads television series nominations with five and a handful of shows fall next in line with three. Some really questionable nominations include The Tourist and Burlesque, Angelina Jolie...

Netflix has reached an agreement with Disney-ABC to provide content from ABC, ABC Family, and Disney Channel through the instant streaming service. New shows will appear 15 days after their original airings and many of the series will have their entire run available for streaming. Netflix already carried some content from the network but this will expand greatly what is offered and include recent episodes for the first time. Shows set to roll out for instant streaming include Desperate Hous...
  • The Walking Dead Finale Draws Series High Ratings

The season finale of The Walking Dead was able to pull in the highest ratings for the series through its six episode run. "TS-19" drew six million viewers, four million of which fell into the all-important 18-49 demo making for a stunning 3.0 rating. Re-airings immediately after would tack on two million more viewers to the total. The Walking Dead was already established as the most watched show in cable history, giving AMC a huge hit to go along with their well regarded but low rated stabl...
  • FX Cancels Terriers

The disappointing but anticipated news came down from FX today that the network will not be renewing Terriers for a second season. The low rated show had a passionate following from viewers and critics but was never able to gain traction amongst the masses. Terriers just completed its 13 episode run first season last week. Terriers was by far my favorite new show of the year. It was marred however by confusing marketing, a questionable name, and having a difficult theme to communicate. Thou...

The AMC original series The Walking Dead has already established itself as the biggest show in network cable history. Unlike most shows that start strong and have a drop-off from week to week, The Walking Dead has been consistent and even shown growth in total viewers. Last night's airing of the fifth episode brought in 5.6 million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the critical 18-49 demo. Those numbers top what was turned in by the premiere on Halloween. The sixth and final episode of the sea...
  • Fox Announces Mid-Season Schedule

Fox has revealed their mid-season lineup of programming which starts being instituted in mid-January. The return of American Idol and the premiere of The Chicago Code headline the new shows coming in. Fringe will move to Friday nights which is not a good sign for its hopes of being renewed. Hopefully the fan base will follow it there, plus it has always been one of the strongest shows in DVR numbers so the move may not hurt the ratings too much. Still it is unfortunate that the prospects fo...
