Though the Golden Globes had some very questionable nominations for the most part there were few surprises when it came to the winners. It was The Social Network coming away with the big prize of Best Drama as well as Best Director, Screenplay, and Score. It now looks to be the clear front-runner for the Best Picture Oscar though it could face a challenge from True Grit. Glee and Boardwalk Empire were the biggest successes of the night coming from the TV categories. (more…)...

Showtime has announced that Californication has been picked up for a fifth season. The series has been a consistent winner for the network and the current showrunner believes there is no end in sight and they'll keep it going as long as they can. Production on the 12 episodes for season five will begin in spring to debut early next year. The news comes only one episode into the new season. The season four premiere last week delivered a series high premiere rating and even more impressively ...

Despite a solid marketing push and great buzz the new FX series Lights Out debuted to disappointing ratings. The premiere brought in just 1.5 million viewers and a 0.6 18-49 rating. Combined with encore showings Lights Out totaled 2.4 million viewers for the evening. FX recently canceled the widely championed but low rated Terriers after its first season. That show started with 1.6 million viewers and 0.5 18-49 rating and eventually fell several points despite a dedicated fan base. Lights O...

Back in early October the Fox comedy Raising Hope became the first new series of the fall to get a full season order. Now Raising Hope is the first to get renewed for a second season. The series centers on a young guy that gets stuck with a baby and his somewhat dysfunctional family that helps him out. It is the highest rated new show for Fox averaging a 3.0 18-49 rating. Raising Hope quickly became one of my favorite comedies currently on network TV, right up there with Community and Mo...

Sunday was a big night for premieres as NBC debuted The Cape, Fox rolled out a new animated series Bob's Burgers, and Showtime kicked off Shameless and Episodes along with the fourth season of Californication. The superhero themed series The Cape drew decent ratings with 8.6 million viewers and a 2.6 18-49 rating. Those numbers aren't great but for struggling NBC it is a good showing. Also encouraging is that the numbers were stable throughout the two hours which could be an indication that...

NBC premiered the new series The Cape on Sunday night bringing another take on a superhero story to network TV. Essentially coming across as a replacement for Heroes it has potential going forward but failed to capitalize fully in the first two episodes. (more…)...

The new FX series Lights Out is set to premiere next week and the network has pushed out a series of short promos along with an extended faux-documentary featuring the characters.
