The nominations for this years Oscars were announced this morning! The new process involved with the Best Picture category means as few as 5 and as many as 10 nominees can be up for the final vote. In this case it was 9 that made the cut and no one expected it to be that many. The honor of having the most nominations went to Hugo with 11 and The Artist followed close behind with 10. Three major films get their release on DVD and Blu-ray this week with nothing really worth noting beyond them. Real Steel was one of my favorite movies of the year and a great family film, 50/50 has gotten incredible response with its mix of drama and comedy, and Paranomal Activity 3 brings the scares. Real Steel (Buy at Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray/DVD Combo) A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman...

The first trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth entry in the exceedingly profitable video game-based series, has arrived online. Given this is a Sony Pictures franchise it's no surprise product placement is included but in this case is done so to an extreme degree. It also stands out that the trailer borrows a strong Daft Punk track from Tron: Legacy. Resident Evil: Retribution is slated to release on September 14th. The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues ...

In a surprising move star (and director of the original) Sylvester Stallone has now confirmed that The Expendables 2 will come in with a PG-13 rating. The news comes on the heels of a statement made by Chuck Norris who claimed he made the stipulation that he would join the cast only if the film was PG-13 given that he doesn't believe in hardcore language and doesn't take parts that are of that nature. The original film was a hard R. The Expendables wasn't a great movie by any means but re...

Posted January 15th, 2012 at 9:45 am No Comments »
It's not an especially inspiring set of new releases this week - but The Ides of March stands out as easily the best of the bunch while a few classics also arrive on Blu-ray. The Ides of March (Buy at Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray) The Ides of March takes place during the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, when an up-and-coming campaign press secretary (Ryan Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate's shot a...

AMC today announced that the third season pickup of The Walking Dead, announced back in October shortly after the debut of the second season, is being extended in its order. Instead of the planned 13 episodes the third season will feature 16 full episodes and premiere next fall. Though creatively season two has been at times frustrating, with many fans of the series growing somewhat disgruntled, the series remains a juggernaut for the network. In the critical 18-49 demo it continues to de...
