It was Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, not one of the new releases, that topped the box office for the weekend of 9/25. Meatballs dropped a remarkably low 20% from last week to haul in 24.6 million and take the crown for consecutive weeks. Family targeted pictures generally drop off less than other genres, but a lack of competition along with the 3D and IMAX hauls made for an especially strong second weekend. Coming in second was the Bruce Willis vehicle Surrogates which pulled in 15 m...

When two members of a spaceship flight crew awake from hyper-sleep to find that they have no memories and a ship in disarray; they are forced to piece together a dark chain of events that led them there. The concept of Pandorum, scared survivors trapped in a confined space pursued by unknown evil force, is noting particularly new or original (See Event Horizon or The Descent for much better examples). The only way to make a film like this work is to have a quality script and an atmosphere...

The Book of Eli takes place in post-apocalyptic America as a man played by Denzel Washington travels across the country protecting a book that holds the secrets to the future of humanity. Some of the images from the film that have been released have led to comparisons with the Fallout video game series. For what appears to have blockbuster potential The Book of Eli is releasing in a usual dead time for big budget studio movies. It is slated to be out on January 15th 2010. @ Yahoo! Vid...

Rentrak Retail and Home Video Essentials announced X-Men Origins: Wolverine topped both the DVD sales and rentals for the week ending September 20, 2009. Not very surprising when you consider this was this past summer's blockbuster. What is a surprise though is Barbie and the Three Musketeers coming in as the second most purchased DVD last week. Rentrak Top 10 Selling DVDs: 1 X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Fox) 2 Barbie and the Three Musketeers (Universal) 3 Grey's Anatomy: The Complete Fi...
  • Review: Surrogates

Surrogates has an intriguing concept but ultimately doesn't deliver on it. Bruce Willis plays FBI agent Greer who is investigating the deaths of two people who at the time were plugged into their surrogates. The surrogates provide the opportunity for people to live out their lives through the use of a robotic avatar. Never having to leave the house has benefits such as crime being practically being eliminated. That is the case until it is discovered that these two people had been killed with a...

The series premiere of FlashForward started off by winning the 8pm hour in both viewers and the 18-49 demo against solid competition in Survivor and Bones. This is definitely encouraging for ABC which will be replaying the show tonight and will likely be a heavily DVR'd show. Another good sign is that viewers increased in the second half hour when many new shows tend to see a drop instead. Despite being on at 8pm, which is traditionally a weaker time slot for the 18-49 crowd, it came in seco...
