MTV sat down with director Sam Raimi for an exclusive interview. The Spiderman franchise director said he's hoping to start shooting Spider-Man 4 the first week of March 2010. Gary Ross continues to write the script using notes Raimi gave him. Other than Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst no other cast members have been selected. On other fronts, "Spider-Man 4" continues to chug along. "The production is starting to come together," Raimi told us. "I've got a production designer who is starting...

NBC has announced that they have canceled the sophomore series Southland which was slated to premiere on October 23rd. Though ratings were solid and it received primarily good reviews this was a show that the network felt wasn't suited for them anymore. The main reason for the cancellation appears to be that a drama with a darker tone has no where to fit in NBC's schedule now that the 10pm hour is unavailable. It would not be surprising to see the show end up on another network in the future...

Only one movie opens wide this week despite it being a holiday weekend. Columbus Day does not traditionally bring out huge audiences to theaters but it is still out of the ordinary to see just one film come out over any weekend let alone an extended one. There will be some screens picked up by Paranormal Activity but that remains in very limited release. Couples Retreat has been getting a strong marketing push based primarily around the well liked ensemble cast. Vince Vaughn, Jason Batema...

Recently it was reported that Zombieland writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick would be writing the screenplay for the Venom movie. Now Variety is reporting Sony is in talks with Spider-Man 4 writer Gary Ross to rewrite the script and possibly even direct the Venom spin-off. The relationship between Columbia Pictures and Gary Ross that began with his rewrite on “Spider-Man 4” is taking a “Venom”-ous turn. I am hearing that the studio is in talks with Ross to hel...

Marlon Wayans has been confirmed to have taken the place of Eddie Murphy in the life story of legendary comedian Richard Prior. Wayans would seem out of his element for a film that, even as he'll be playing a comedian, will have heavy dramatic elements to it. Apparently though he screen tested strongly impressing the producers and studio executives. Some comedic actors have turned in great performances in dramas and it looks like Wayans will have his chance to show his range in what could pr...

  • Adrien Brody to star in new Predator movie

I was a little surprised when I had first heard Robert Rodriguez would bring back the Predator franchise. Today, I'm shocked to read on Variety that Adrien Brody has landed the lead role of the film. I think Brody is a great actor and will do a good job, but I just don't see him as a Marine in the mold of Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's also being reported Topher Grace is in negotiations to join a cast that includes Alice Braga ("I Am Legend"), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali ("The 4400"), Walt Goggi...
