Avatar Passes Titanic to Become Biggest Movie Ever
Many considered Titanic's record of $1.835 billion made worldwide to be unbreakable. Today Avatar surpassed that amount and did so in less than six weeks of release to become the highest grossing film of all time. It looks like we have another solid week of movie releases. The much anticipated Michael Jackson's This Is It will hit stores this week, and will most likely sell well. Although ticket sales didn't go as predicated, DVD sales should be pretty high. Other notable releases include Bruce Willis' Surrogates and Ellen Page's Whip It. Weekend Box Office Results 1/22-1/24
As expected Avatar easily cruised to its six straight weekend win but one of the new movies beat expectations and performed very well. Last week that was The Book of Eli and this week it was Legion. The two other new entries this weekend had disappointing starts. Conan O’Brien Goes Out On Top
The ratings for the final The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien were huge as it drew a 4.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. To put that in perspective it was the highest rated program on all of TV Friday, though that isn't completely surprising given that Friday is generally weak in primetime and the Haiti telethon took over all the networks.
