New on DVD: Week of March 29
After a solid week of movie releases, this one doesn't seem so good. The big movie hitting stores is Sherlock Holmes. The film, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jud Law, scored a 69% 'Fresh Rating' on Rottentomatoes.com. Also worth noting is the release of The Baader Meinhof Complex. The film was rated pretty high by critics, even though it was never really popular and only grossed $296,294 at the box office. Here is the full release schedule broken up by standard DVD and Blu-ray:

Two Independence Day Sequels May Be Coming
Back in October it was reported that a script for the sequel to Independence Day had been completed. Still nothing had been set in stone as star Will Smith had not signed on and talks were taking place about the future. Director Roland Emmerich was insisting that Smith be involved if a sequel were to take place. But as the biggest (and possibly only) bankable star in Hollywood that would mean shelling out the big bucks.
Now IESB has a report that Will Smith may have signed on for not just I...

Bryan Singer to Produce ‘X-Men: First Class’
Deadline.com is reporting that Bryan Singer has been tabbed to produce X-Men: First Class. Singer signed on to direct Jack the Giant Killer for Warner Bros, so now he must slide over to producing X-Men: First Class instead of directing. There has been no word yet on who Fox will chose to direct the film.
Singer will join Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg as pro...

How to Train Your Dragon Wins The Weekend
The animated film How to Train Your Dragon opened well with $43.3 million over the weekend. The Dreamworks Animation production has been loved by critics and audiences and opened right within the range of industry expectations. I thought it had the potential to do better though, as inferior family films have been able to approach or exceed $50 million. There were also the increased ticket prices that went into effect this weekend which could have contributed to larger numbers.
Is it the fir...

Sony Pictures has hit on a neat concept with the release of a "motion poster" for The Other Guys. Starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg and directed by Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) the movie also includes Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Craig Robinson and Eva Mendes. The plot involves two detectives who get an opportunity to step up from their "B Team" status but things don't go exactly as planned.
