Rooney Mara has won out a fierce battle for the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and the two subsequent sequels. Many names had been tossed around and screen tested including Ellen Page, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson. Daniel Craig was already set as the male lead. The film, based on the first in a trio of Swedish novels, is being directed by David Fincher. Judge Dredd is getting a reboot and Karl Urban has signed on. The movie is expected to be a very gritty...
  • New on DVD: Week of August 16

This is arguably the worst week of the year for movie releases. There isn't a single movie worth buying, and maybe even renting. For example, Furry Vengeance received only an 8% on Rottentomatoes.com, simply rotten. Good luck finding any movies releasing that are much better. Here is the full release schedule broken up by standard DVD and Blu-ray: (more…)...

Yahoo! has posted the trailer for the upcoming film I'm Still Here. The documentary is the directorial debut of Casey Affleck and follows Joaquin Phoenix's 'retirement' from acting and new career in hip hop. I'm not sure what to think of this whole thing. Is it a hoax? Is it something done for publicity? The fact that Affleck and Phoenix are brother-in-laws also adds to my skepticism. It just seems too unreal to be taken seriously. Although from the trailer it looks rather serious and dark. ...

George Lucas has announced that the full Star Wars saga will be arriving on Blu-ray in fall 2011. The set will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films "with the highest picture and audio quality” along with extras that will include documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives, and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives. The disappointing thing for many people will be that the original three Star Wars films will be the remas...
  • Varied Levels of Success at the Box Office for New Openers

It was a busy weekend at the box office where old action stars reigned supreme, a reliable female star opened a film to modest numbers, and a potential cult-classic couldn't gain any traction. Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables, which united numerous action stars of the past, resonated with a large segment of males looking for a straight big action offering. Despite primarily disappointing reviews (citing great action but poor acting and story) the crowd supported it leading it to the top...
