The full theatrical trailer for the sic-fi thriller Skyline has arrived. This was a movie I hadn't even heard of until sitting in on the panel at Comic-Con where we were shown a full trailer and some additional footage. I came away especially intrigued because it was done on a small budget and independently financed, to the extent that it was even filmed out of the apartment owned by the directors, but somehow they pulled off visuals in line with event-style blockbusters. This full trailer ...

George Lucas has reportedly given the go-ahead to release all six of the Star Wars films theatrically in 3D beginning in 2012. The plan is to start with Episode I - The Phantom Menace and then release them over the course of six years with one each year. That would leave Episode VI - Return of the Jedi to close things out in 2017. The films would be converted to 3D, a process that has fatigued audiences and resulted in dwindling returns due to poor results. However Lucas is known for being ...

Fox has sent down word that after two episodes they have officially canceled Lone Star. The series which had aired Mondays at 9pm will be replaced by Lie to Me which is having its premiere moved up to October 4th. It had been originally scheduled to come back on Wednesdays starting November 10th and what will take its place there remains uncertain. Lone Star was a critical darling heading into its premiere but started with a horrendously low 1.3 18-49 rating and despite efforts to produce a...

With Christopher Nolan overseeing the reboot of Superman there is an understandably high level of interest in everything that has to do with the project. Rumors surrounding who will direct and who will star have already started appearing. As to director the latest name to be floated is Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan) who the LA Times cites as having had discussions with Nolan about the film. While it doesn't seem like this would be his type of project maybe ...

The fifth season premiere of Dexter represented the most watched season premiere in 15 years for Showtime. The episode drew a total of 2.3 million viewers counting the original showing and the replay. That number is sure to rise quite a bit when on-demand and DVR numbers are factored in. Up 22% from the fourth season premiere, the 2.3 million came in under the finale of the last season which drew 2.6 million. However a finale tends to bring more live viewers where audiences don't necessaril...

Two new releases had solid, though maybe not spectacular openings at the box office. The sequel to the 1987 film Wall Street came out the winner, while the animated adaptation of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole novels followed in second place. With $19 million Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps came in right about at industry expectations. It was never pegged to be a huge hit, though it still carried some nostalgia factor and intrigue considering the timely nature with the economy of today. The film...

An animated film about a battling faction of owls wouldn't have been many people's first guess of what project director Zack Snyder would take on coming off directing 300 and The Watchmen. Despite that it actually turns out to be a great fit, as he has created an experience that will captivate the younger crowd while giving everyone something to appreciate in its actual look and dramatic edge even with a story that feels rushed. (more…)...
