Last night's premiere of the comic-adaptation series The Walking Dead became AMC's highest rated premiere ever. The show pulled in 5.3 million viewers and a massive 3.6 rating in the crucial 18-49 demo. When including the two replays that immediately followed the total was 8.1 million viewers for the evening. AMC has been building a brand established on high quality but typically low ratings. Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and Rubicon are prime examples of that. The Walking Dead however provided wi...

As expected horror films topped the charts for Halloween weekend as Saw 3D opened #1 and Paranormal Activity 2 posted a solid take coming off its #1 opening last weekend. Saw 3D made $22.5 million which is up $8 million over what Saw VI took in last year. $9 million on Friday was followed by heavy drop-offs on Saturday and Sunday which is typical of a not just a horror movie but even more so a sequel. The movie will have no legs at all but considering the $20 million budget it is already pr...

An increasingly significant driver of subscriptions to Netflix comes due to the company's streaming of a large library of movie and television content. A study recently came out and said as much as 20% of the traffic on the internet at any given time is taken up by Netflix streaming. That is pretty astonishing to consider and quite surprising. Redbox, with their over 25K kiosks strategically placed all across the US, have been a huge success as well and continues to show growth. The two com...

I went into Comic-Con, like many others, having never heard of Skyline. The presentation and showing of some scenes though captured everyone's attention, especially given that it was made on a low independent budget. The special effects looked as though they were right out of a big budget sci-fi tentpole film. It turns out that the Strause brothers who directed also financed and own their own special effects studio. To give some perspective on how slim the budget was they even chose to film mu...

EW.com has posted the first official photo of Chris Evans in 'Captain America' gear. It's pretty much what I had pictured the character would look like. The only thing really missing at this point is his mask. In the interview with EW, Evans talks about how at first he was a bit apprehensive about accepting the role of Steve Rogers. Evans recalls, “I was just scared. I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear. I canââ...

The HBO comedy Eastbound & Down became a surprise hit largely due to great word of mouth. Despite that it was still uncertain whether it would get a second season but the network picked it up and the decision has paid off. Ratings are more than doubling the first season and are averaging 1.4 million viewers an episode. With the second season nearing its end HBO has announced they have ordered a third season. No word on how many episodes that will bring. E&D's first season was just s...
