"Michael Jackson's This Is It," has broken advance ticket sales records for a movie. According to Reuters, hundreds of screenings in North America have already sold out, a month before the film's October 28 opening. Proving that even in death, MJ is still one of the biggest superstars on the planet. Cities with particularly strong sales include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and New York, said Sony Pictures Entertainment, the division of Sony Co that produced the film from "High Schoo...
  • New on DVD: Week of September 29

It looks like another slow week for movie releases. Nothing on the list seems to be worth a DVD or Blu-ray purchase. I did get a chance to see Away We go. It was a decent romantic comedy that did have it's moments, but definitely not something I'd see again. A couple of collections being released on DVD this week are the Batman and Blade Collections. If the Blade Collection was being released on Blu-ray I'd consider picking it up. I really enjoyed the first two Blade films and I believe the...

Do you remember the low budget 1999 film The Blair Witch Project? Of course you do. There is a new movie on the horizon being tabbed as the next Blair Witch. Paranormal Activity was made for a mere $11,000 but could end up making millions if all the buzz and hype holds true. After some midnight screenings, viewers are saying it’s the scariest movie of the decade. In Paranormal Activity, we follow a couple (Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat) who are convinced they're being haunted b...

It was Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, not one of the new releases, that topped the box office for the weekend of 9/25. Meatballs dropped a remarkably low 20% from last week to haul in 24.6 million and take the crown for consecutive weeks. Family targeted pictures generally drop off less than other genres, but a lack of competition along with the 3D and IMAX hauls made for an especially strong second weekend. Coming in second was the Bruce Willis vehicle Surrogates which pulled in 15 m...
  • Review: Pandorum

When two members of a spaceship flight crew awake from hyper-sleep to find that they have no memories and a ship in disarray; they are forced to piece together a dark chain of events that led them there. The concept of Pandorum, scared survivors trapped in a confined space pursued by unknown evil force, is noting particularly new or original (See Event Horizon or The Descent for much better examples). The only way to make a film like this work is to have a quality script and an atmosphere...

The Book of Eli takes place in post-apocalyptic America as a man played by Denzel Washington travels across the country protecting a book that holds the secrets to the future of humanity. Some of the images from the film that have been released have led to comparisons with the Fallout video game series. For what appears to have blockbuster potential The Book of Eli is releasing in a usual dead time for big budget studio movies. It is slated to be out on January 15th 2010. @ Yahoo! Vid...
