A trailer for the highly anticipated movie The Expendables has found it's way onto the internet. The film is not only loaded with action but with big name actors as well. The Sly Stallone movie features Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charisma Carpenter, Giselle Itie, Brittany Murphy, David Zayas and Amin Joseph. There should be more than enough action for you in this t...

When a movie becomes a blockbuster hit of the magnitude seen with Independence Day there will always be talk about a sequel. As director Roland Emmerich begins his rounds promoting 2012 questions on that topic are coming up again. In an interview with LatinoReview he discusses the stage they are now at with a script having been completed. Dean Devlin and I are still set to make a sequel likely because we’ve found some sort of idea and we approached FOX and FOX has not quite figured o...

After a couple of weeks of bad releases, this week seems to be a little better. There aren't any blockbusters hitting stores, but one film I enjoyed was Drag Me To Hell. Directed by Sam Raimi, the surprising horror movie is the perfect film for October with Halloween right around the corner. This one may actually be worth a purchase and definitely worth a rental. Here is the full release schedule broken up by standard DVD and Blu-ray: (more…)...

Couples Retreat exceeded industry (and my own) expectations this weekend pulling in right around 34 million. Despite poor reviews and mediocre audience response the comedy was marketable enough to draw big on its opening weekend. Long term the outlook isn't as bright, but for a movie that reportedly cost 70 million to make it will end up in the black. For my review of Couples Retreat click here. Even more remarkable than what Couples Retreat achieved, the ultra-low budget Paranormal Activ...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line Cinema is planning a sequel to the 1983 comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation. The film will focus on Clark Griswold’s son, Rusty, who is now a father and takes his family on a road trip. The characters would acknowledge that first trip, making the movie more of a sequel than a reboot. Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, who played the mom in the original movies, will have room to make appearances as grandparents, providing a sense of ...

After an earlier teaser trailer and a mild run with Toy Story & Toy Story 2 playing in 3D to help bring back awareness Disney has now prepared the full theatrical trailer for Toy Story 3. Despite over 10 years having passed since the the second film came out, Toy Story 3 is highly anticipated and should bring in huge numbers for Disney/Pixar which will likely exceed those of their recent productions such as Up and Wall-E. This time around the toys must deal with being dumped by Andy a...
  • Review: Couples Retreat

Couples Retreat offers a well liked cast in a package that seems carefully constructed to appeal to as many people as possible. The plot is centered on four couples that head to an island resort for vacation only to find out that couples counseling is required. The pairs are all in different stages in their relationships but are challenged by the process and what it means to them with some more accepting than others. Laced with cliches and predictable developments, Couples Retreat brings no...

One of the biggest movies of the summer was JJ Abrams reboot of Star Trek. Exceeding expectations it opened to over 70 million the first weekend and to date has hauled in nearly 260 million domestically. So discussion about the sequel was inevitable even in the very early stages with the release slated for summer 2011. We know the main players will return including the entire cast and Abrams (though uncertain if he will direct) while Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof will once again write the...
