  • New on DVD: Week of October 27

It seems to be another quiet week for DVD and Blu-ray releases. The only movie I'd probably pick up is the Blu-ray version of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. This might be my favorite Christmas movie, and is definitely my favorite of all the 'Vacation' movies. Amazon.com has posted a video of all the extras you get with the collector's edition pack, and I must say it is definitely worth the price. Some of the stuff included are holiday collectibles, so you'll be able to use them every C...

Variety is reporting Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks with Joel and Ethan Coen to join Jeff Bridges in True Grit. The Coens, who previously attached their “Big Lebowski” star Bridges to play U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn, are in talks with Damon to play the lawman (played by Glen Campbell in the original) who teams with Cogburn and a 14-year old girl to track her father’s killer into hostile Indian territory. In a turnabout, Brolin is in talks to play the killer...
  • Netflix Streaming Coming to PS3

As announced today the PS3 will be receiving Netflix streaming in November. This has been a really nice feature for watching movies and TV shows on the PC or the Xbox 360 for some time now. The biggest difference though is the PS3 will require the use of a "instant streaming Blu-ray disc" while the 360 has the program is fully integrated into XBL. There will be no extra charge for PS3 users, all that is required is a high enough subscription plan with Netflix. For those planning to use the f...

As I mentioned last month, there is a sequel to the 2007 horror film 30 Days of Night in the works. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting some additions to the film's cast. Diora Baird, Harold Perrineau, Kiele Sanchez, Rhys Coiro and Mia Kirshner will star in "30 Days of Night: Dark Days," the sequel to the David Slade-directed 2007 horror film about an Alaska town besieged by bloodsuckers. Baird, Perrineau and Coiro will play vampire hunters who recruit Sanchez to help them seek revenge o...

The first indication that the Saw franchise is vulnerable has arrived. The previous sequels all opened with 30-34 million however after Friday's take Saw VI looks to finish up the weekend with about 18 million. The relatively low budget makes this still a very profitable venture but a disappointment because the majority of the money the picture will make will come in the first eight days. Not only did Saw VI drop significantly, for the first time it won't be #1 at the box office. Paranorm...

Halloween arrives a week early at the box office as the now yearly installment of the Saw franchise is released. Saw VI will look to continue the astonishingly consistent performance of the sequels. The best chance of a strong box office pull is presented by releasing this weekend rather than next Friday. If it waited until that close to Halloween it would have a light Saturday audience and only the one day to take advantage of the anticipation of the holiday. Now Saw will likely have a big ...
