    The first trailer for the remake of the classic The Karate Kid was released today. The film stars Jackie Chan as the mentor Mr. Han and Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son) as Dre who finds himself in China after his mother moves them for a new job. Falling for a classmate leads to trouble with the class bully and Dre takes an interest in kung fu which is taught to him by the maintenance man Mr. Han. The Karate Kid is slated to release on June 11th 2010. ...

    Sherlock Holmes arrives for the holidays as one of the most anticipated movies of the season. This is due in large part to the charisma of Robert Downey Jr. who plays the famed private investigator as Guy Ritchie attempts a reboot of the story. Unlike some other franchises which have gone with origin stories, the characters in Sherlock are already established as they take on a new and challenging case that has the fate of England in the balance.     Fox has released the first trailer for action-comedy Knight & Day. The movie stars Tom Cruise as a spy and Cameron Diaz the woman that gets pulled into a deadly adventure with him as they attempt to avoid capture by a federal agent. Knight & Day is slated to release on July 2nd 2010. ...

    I was surprised to see there weren't bigger movie releases for the week of Christmas. The big name this week is Peter Jackson's District 9. If you are a Sci-Fi fan, then this is probably a movie you'd enjoy. If you are a fan of Comedy, Mike Judge's Extract was solid.     The final numbers are in for opening weekend of Avatar. The James Cameron film was able to pull in $77 million domestically and totaled $242 million worldwide. That is a good result but one that fell about in the middle of what was a wide range of industry predictions.     Robert Rodriguez's Predators has added another member to it's cast, as Laurence Fishburne has signed on to play a character named Noland. MTV has the story: Fishburne will play a character named Noland, though no other details about the role are available yet. The actor will film his part at Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas, where the movie is currently shooting following the recent work done in Hawaii.     Avatar appears to be on the way to a weekend take close to $80 million. Along with the early midnight showings the movie was able to pull in $27 million on Friday. Increased prices in ticket sales due to 3D and IMAX screenings helped boost the take. Long term prospects are very good. This is one of the rare times where the opening weekend results won't be nearly as interesting as following how it does in the weeks ahead.
