Here is my list of the top 10 trailers for movies released in 2009. Considerations factoring into the inclusion of these trailers were primarily based on the excitement they stirred up, how much they increased the visibility of and sold the movie, and the emotion instilled from watching. Essentially these are the trailers that most pumped me up, caught my attention, or changed my perception of an upcoming film. (more…)...
  • Christmas Day Box Office Results

Christmas is usually one of the busiest movie-going days of the year. That held true once again as huge numbers rolled in for multiple movies. The result could be the highest grossing weekend at the box office in history. Avatar may be on the way to matching or making more this weekend than it did last, and Sherlock Holmes blew by all industry expectations to battle for the top spot. Sherlock Holmes came in #1 on Friday but whether it will finish there for the weekend is uncertain. The movi...
  • Trailer for Cop Out

Warner Brothers has released the first trailer for the Kevin Smith comedy Cop Out. The movie originally had the clever title A Couple of Dicks. The decision was made to change it due to television networks refusing to air ads before 9pm if it had Dicks in the title. Cop Out works on multiple levels because of that. Two longtime NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card and find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. Jimmy (Bruce Wi...

A few new big offerings hit theaters in time for Christmas while a few others expand to wide release after limited runs. Sherlock Holmes targets a more adult and action oriented crowd, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel goes right for the younger children, and It's Complicated hopes to connect with older movie-goers. Up in the Air had a positive run through December and will see how the word-of-mouth carries it while Nine has not been as lucky with the general response or reviews. Despite...

The red band trailer for the action-thriller Repo Men has arrived. The story is based in a future where mechanical organs have been created but given the high expense those that haven't been paid for can be repossessed. Jude Law and Forest Whitaker star as those employed to get the organs back but when one of them has trouble making payments on his own he must go on the run from his former partner. Repo Men has a release date of April 2nd 2010. ...
  • Second ‘Inception’ Teaser Poster and French Trailer

Last week, the first teaser poster for Christopher Nolan's Inception was released. This week, Comingsoon.net has posted the second poster for your viewing pleasure. Based off the two posters we still can't get a good idea of what the film is about. Also making it's way around the net was a French teaser video. Unfortunately, the studio has asked the video to be removed from most sites I've visited. I did manage to find it at Funnyordie.com, although I'm not sure how long it will stay up....
  • Avatar Soars Past $100 Million in Five Days

After pulling in $77 million over the weekend Avatar made $16.4 million on Monday and $16.2 million on Tuesday. These are huge numbers for weekdays and a clear indication that it is benefiting from the incredibly strong word-of-mouth. Avatar has now made $109.5 million in just five days of release. The only movie to open higher than Avatar in the history of December was in 2007 with I Am Legend.  That movie followed up a $77.2 million weekend with a $7.5 million Monday in comparison. I A...
  • Review: (500) Days of Summer

"This is a story of boy meets girl. But you should know up front this is not a love story". That is how (500) Days of Summer is introduced and it holds true in what is easily one of my favorite movies of the year. This is not a conventional romantic comedy. Instead it is one of the most honest stories about relationships I can remember ever being on screen and it really hit home. (more…)...
