New on DVD: Week of January 4
The new year doesn't really offer us any great movies in it's first week. Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is probably the best movie of the releases this week. The animated movie scored an 85% "Fresh Rating" on Rottentomatoes.com. We will surely see this movie at the top of the sales list. Here is the full release schedule broken up by standard DVD and Blu-ray:

Avatar Already Over $1 Billion Worldwide
The latest worldwide numbers have come in for Avatar and it has now exceeded $1 billion making it the fourth highest grossing movie of all-time after just 17 days of release. James Cameron is now the only director to have two movies in the $1 billion club and there are only five total that have made it. Avatar still has over $800 million to go to catch Titanic but will cruise into second place by the end of the week. Considering how fast it got to a billion it is realistic to now put the recor...

Trailer for Frozen
The full theatrical trailer for Frozen has arrived. Three snowboarders are unknowingly stranded high up on a chairlift as the resort closes leaving them to realize they must act before they freeze to death. This has the look of another high concept but relatively low budget film which could catch on due to word-of-mouth. Watching this I definitely think of movies such as Open Water, Paranormal Activity, and the upcoming Buried. Frozen is slated to release on February 5th.

Review: Armored
No one goes into a movie such as Armored expecting it to be brilliantly written or even necessarily have a semi-plausible plot. Generally it is all about the entertainment factor and whether the characters and story developments are compelling. Unfortunately Armored does not excel in any area and comes off as predictable and completely implausible.
The story centers on a group of armored car workers who attempt to steal $42 million by concocting a story about being ambushed while hiding the...
January 2010 Movie Preview
January used to be viewed by studios as a month to either expand movies that opened in limited release to qualify for Academy Award consideration or as a dumping ground for films with low potential. That isn't the case anymore as January has proven to have the produce some hits. A couple movies release this coming month that look to reinforce the new way of thinking.

Below is the list of DVD sales and rentals for the week ending December 27, 2009:
