With the Spider-Man franchise getting a reboot the casting of course is going to be a critical and highly-scrutinized element. Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) is on to direct, and the story will be going back to high school. That means younger actors will be needed. Early word was that the studio wanted to go with relative unknowns. So naturally the rumors are starting to swirl with the first focus being on who will play Peter Parker. HitFix is reporting that Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) is ...

A couple weeks ago Sony put out a clever motion poster as the first thing to hit for The Other Guys. Now the first trailer for the Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg comedy has been released.  Directed by Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) the movie also includes Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Craig Robinson and Eva Mendes. The plot involves two detectives who get an opportunity to step up from their “B Team” status but things don’t go exactly as planned. The Other ...

Back in January Netflix struck the first, of what was expected to be many, deals with distributors to add a delay period before offering DVDs for rent. That first agreement was with Warner Brothers and more recently Redbox announced the same deal with WB. 28 days must pass from when the movies are released in stores to when they would be available through the Netflix service or Redbox vending machines. Now Netflix has announced agreements with Universal and Fox for a four week delay period ...

Only one new movie this weekend as the comedy Date Night arrives to help balance out the current marketplace which has been dominated by 3D offerings. It has a good chance to top the box office, though it should be a close race with last weekend's winner Clash of the Titans. Date Night has the star power to drive a comedy of this nature, with a uniquely strong appeal to both males and females. Steve Carell and Tina Fey are well liked and they both have a history of being able to open films....
  • Top DVD Sales and Rentals for Week Ending April 4, 2010

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel was surprisingly the top selling movie last week. I say surprising because the movie is terrible. The film only scored a 20% rating on Rottentomatoes.com, making it 'rotten'. Even though it is a 'family' film, I thought Sherlock Holmes would have sold the most. The film, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, was second in sales but was the top renting DVD last week. After spending a couple of weeks at the top of the sales chart, The Twilight Saga...

Taylor Kitsch is set to play the lead character in Battleship, which will be directed by Peter Berg. Kitsch and Berg have prior ties, as Berg created and produced the Friday Night Lights TV show where Kitsch really made his name, while also getting a significant role as Gambit in Wolverine. He is viewed as a budding star, already leading a tentpole film with the upcoming John Carter of Mars. In Battleship Kitsch will play the lead character, the CO of one of the destroyers. Battleship is na...

There is a new creature hitting big screens this summer. Splice stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley as two scientists who combine human and animal DNA to create a new species. The film's tagline, 'Science newest miracle...is a mistake', should tell us all we need to know about the results. Guillermo del Toro will produce the film with Vincenzo Natali directing. Splice will be released in theaters on June 4. ...

Today on Twitter director Jon Favreau confirmed that Harrison Ford has signed on for Cowboys & Aliens. This represents Favreau's next project following the nearing completion and release of Iron Man 2. The film is being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers, Fringe) and being overseen by Damon Lindelof (Lost). Ford joins Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde as the big names tied to the film. Based on the comic, the story takes place in the early 1800's where the Co...
