Universal and Fox Now Delayed With Netflix
Back in January Netflix struck the first, of what was expected to be many, deals with distributors to add a delay period before offering DVDs for rent. That first agreement was with Warner Brothers and more recently Redbox announced the same deal with WB. 28 days must pass from when the movies are released in stores to when they would be available through the Netflix service or Redbox vending machines. Only one new movie this weekend as the comedy Date Night arrives to help balance out the current marketplace which has been dominated by 3D offerings. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel was surprisingly the top selling movie last week. I say surprising because the movie is terrible. The film only scored a 20% rating on Rottentomatoes.com, making it 'rotten'. Even though it is a 'family' film, I thought Sherlock Holmes would have sold the most.
