Though everything has settled down now that Chris Evans has been cast as Steve Rogers in Captain America, there was still another important role that was to be determined. A few weeks of rumors included names such as Keira Knightley and Alice Eve being screen-tested. However it is British actress Haley Atwell that has been cast as Peggy Carter, the Captain's girlfriend during World War II. Atwell joins Evans, Hugo Weaving, and Sebastian Stan as the main roles established for the film which is ...

Recently it was Logan Lerman widely thought to be the front-runner to play Peter Parker in the reboot of Spider-Man. Now there are sources stating that Lerman is not a serious candidate and the name that is at the head of the list currently is Josh Hutcherson. Hutcherson does fit the age and look that are being sought for the role. He might even be a little more recognizable, though not in name, than Lerman considering he has a more extensive background. Hutcherson has appeared in numerous ...
  • New on DVD: Week of April 12

This is a very slow week for movie releases. There aren't many 'must buys' out there. I did get the chance to see The Slammin' Salmon and I was surprised with how much I enjoyed it. You either will love this movie, or hate it. A quick look at the reviews will prove it. For example, IMDB.com users rated it a 6.9/10, which isn't bad. But Rottentomatoes.com gave this movie a 39%, making it 'rotten'. The comedy centers around a retired boxer's (Michael Clark Duncan) restaurant and it's staff. If...

Though the initial news of Joss Whedon being on the shortlist to direct The Avengers may have first broken on April Fools' Day it appears that report was right on the mark. Indications today are that Marvel has entered final negotiations with Whedon to take on the critical franchise which represents the culmination of several other Marvel films that have been released or are slated to release through 2011. The Avengers would then become a franchise of its own with plans for sequels should the ...

Slash Film has an interesting report on the upcoming Green Lantern which stars Ryan Reynolds. Rather than wearing a traditional suit during filming the suit will instead be computer generated. You can check out the entire article here which goes over the thoughts behind using a CG suit and some early reports on how the movie is shaping up. Remember, the Green Lantern suit is something that should look alien — it needs to seem other worldly. It encompasses any creature that wears the ...

Columbia Pictures has hired Mike Finch and Alex Litvak, the writers for the upcoming Predators reboot, to write the script for Masters of the Universe. Heat Vision has the story: The studio picked up movie rights to the 1980s Mattel toy property in the fall, when Mattel and Warner Bros. parted ways after the sides couldn't agree on a creative vision. The addition of the rising writers is the first major move on the property and signals the project is being rebuilt from the ground up. Whi...

Posted April 12th, 2010 at 10:11 am No Comments »
It was expected to be a close race at the box office this weekend and that is exactly what we got. The Steve Carell-Tina Fey comedy Date Night squeaked out a first place finish with a little over $27 million. Wide spread appeal to both males and females provided strength and both Carell and Fey have delivered solid openings in the past. Last weekend's winner Clash of the Titans fell an expected 56% to just under $27 million. It has now collected $110 million but long term prospects are not ...
