In March the New York Post mentioned that Spike Lee was in San Francisco working on an NBA video game-related project, which obviously meant it was NBA 2K16, and now Polygon is reporting more on his involvement. The official tagline for 2K16 is "Be the Story" and "A Spike Lee Joint" apparently will appear on the cover. The latter is at least preferable to whoever put together the soundtrack being promoted there. Lee is working with 2K on MyCareer Mode which seems like a natural f...

Beginning Friday afternoon (3ET/12PT) and running through Sunday (ending at 3AM ET/12AM PT Monday morning) NBA 2K15 will be playable for free on Xbox One. This will require downloading the full game which is 47GB. Similar to how things work with EA Access, the copy of NBA 2K15 will expire, but saves will be tied to the console for those who choose to buy the game later and continue with them. Microsoft is also advertising a "deal" on the NBA 2K15 Bundle for the weekend which includes 15,0...

Though there are a number of compelling series in the first round of the NBA Playoffs not many observers are anticipating upsets to take place. To get an idea for what is to come from another angle I turned to NBA 2K15 to simulate the entirety of the first round. An extensive amount of time was spent having the CPU play the CPU for every game in each series while utilizing the latest updated rosters. Based on the sim only one series will go seven games and that's the 4v5 in the Eastern Co...
  • NBA 2K15 Week 24 Ratings Changes

Though the frequency of NBA 2K15 roster updates has diminished over the months significant changes are still being made. Recently, following the realization that shot percentages had become too high after the latest patch, a global change was made to compensate by reducing the mid-range and three point shooting ratings for every player in the game by eight points. Outside of the critical decision to drop the shooting ratings plenty of others have been adjusted through a handful of rost...

2K Sports today reactivated the servers for NBA 2K14 following light being shone on the problems created in their absence. Those who had MyCareer and MyGM saves will now be able to resume playing them. The company also declared that from now on servers will remain up for 18-27 months. That will bring them more in line with EA Sports who leaves servers up for at least two years. SCEA becomes is the outlier, with plans to shut down MLB 14 servers in June - just 13 months after release of th...
  • NBA 2K14 Server Shutdown Has Killed Previously Existing Save Files

When 2K Sports announced support for the NBA 2K14 servers would cease on March 31 they also reassured consumers that their MyCareer and MyGM files would convert from online saves into offline saves. The only real difference would be changing over from VC (Virtual Currency) to SP (Skill Points). The statement from the company has turned out not to be true. People with saves that began online (which would include most everyone) have had their progress halted and the only way to continue ...
  • Details on Latest Patch for NBA 2K15 Finally Released Following Arrival on Xbox One

A third post-release patch for NBA 2K15 went out three weeks ago on PlayStation 4 and PC. Today it finally made it to Xbox One after what may have been a failed certification which caused the delay, though 2K Sports would not comment on its status over the three week period. All that had been previously identified from the patch was a fix so shoes could be applied to MyPlayer characters and a change to shooting percentages. The precise details of the update were being held back until it h...

Over the last few weeks 2K Sports has been attempting to run a promotion where particular players would have their number of points scored taken off the price of NBA 2K15 the following day. It had been spectacular failure with not a single deal coming out of the promotion. Finally yesterday the results paid off, by combining points scored by James Harden and John Wall, and NBA 2K15 is available now on Amazon for $11. The deal will be available for up to 12 hours, though it has been ...
