#6 of 2008: NBA 2K9
This was the year, as we've seen with the sales numbers, that consumers overwhelmingly identified the NBA 2K series as the definitive choice for basketball gamers. Being #1 sometimes brings side effects and that has been seen through some dissatisfaction and growing pains. Outside of that though what NBA 2K9 offers is a familiar enjoyable gameplay experience.
With all three basketball games this year offering something different, what 2K9 stood out in was the gameplay. That includes being...
NBA 2K9 Team-Up Mode Not Fixed By Patch
One of the supposed fixes in the patch for NBA 2K9 was to make the 5 on 5 Team-Up mode playable. The mode has never worked properly having been inflicted with crippling lag (the worst I've ever experienced), disconnects, and frustration. I was concerned with the wording in the patch details and wanted to see how much it improved the performance. Two months after release would Team-Up mode actually function properly and deliver what was advertised?
The short answer to that is no. I spent a...
NBA 2K9 Patch Details
The patch for NBA 2K9 will be available for the PS3 early Wednesday morning and should follow for the 360 in the near future. There are a pretty significant number of fixes and improvements included in the patch. It'll be interesting to find out how much is seen in regards to online play, especially with the Team-Up mode. Continue on for the full list of what has been addressed.
Update: The patch is already out for the 360.

Recently Traded Player DNA Changes
A few games have now been played since the trading that went down in the NBA between the Knicks, Warriors, and Clippers. The Knicks gained Tim Thomas, Cuttino Mobley, and Al Harrington. The Warriors received Jamal Crawford while the Clippers got Zach Randolph. Now that NBA Live 09 has received the data from these first games with their new teams we can look at how the players are adapting via their DNA make-up as of 11/30.

NBA Teams Using Live 09 To Scout
For a while now it has been evident to me that the most interesting aspect of NBA Live 09's 365 feature is using it as NBA knowledge for analyzing teams and players. This apparently is not lost upon the actual NBA teams as it is reported about half of them are using the game as a way to evaluate talent and prepare gameplans.
Daryl Morey (Houston Rockets GM) uses the EA Sports NBA game for professional reasons. He uses it to help evaluate talent. Morey says he is a statistical junky, an admi...
NCAA Basketball 09 Patch Now Out
The patch for NCAA Basketball 09 that was originally planned to arrive in early December has made its way out early for both the 360 and PS3. It adds in authentic schedules, the display of named rosters online, and the ability to edit classic teams. It also attempts improvements in the areas of post play and full court press as well as "tightening up" of dynasty mode.
Unfortunately nothing still has been done regarding the public sharing of named roster files through the EA Locker that f...
NCAA Basketball 09 Roster Sharing Problem
As discovered by ncaaStrategies it appears that the EA Locker 3.0 in NCAA Basketball 09 has a flaw that prevents the ability to share rosters openly from being utilized. Named rosters are still able to be traded but as of now that is only possible directly from the user's locker, which means you would have to be on their friends list to retrieve it.
What is happening is that the game is identifying some names as being inappropriate, which rejects the file entirely. Unfortunately numerous ...
NBA Live 365 Now With Streaks
The last update I had concentrated on the emerging story of Anthony Morrow. He had been added into NBA Live 09 through 365 following his first game. Though his ratings now can be identified as being far off from accurate (I couldn't make a shot with him) the feature did get him in immediately after his first appearance. At the time 2K9 did not have him in the game however the latest roster update has added him in. That made it 10 days from the time Morrow first appeared to when 2K9 had him i...
